Not sure I agree.

Perez is just Aoki/Blanco lite. Ishi brings a whole different skillset with him. He is a very good PHer and has the added ability to play 1B (possibly not needed, granted). He also is set to make 1M this year, so the Giants have basically already stated he is getting the #5 job.

Perez and Hacktor could be trade bait mid year if we need to make a deal.

Juan Perez better be the 5th OF over Ishikawa

Agreed. I have this feeling that Perez is going to perform this year. I believe the playoffs have given him confidence that he can hit up here and I have this feeling that he will have at least a semi-breakout year.

Why is that important to you without a salary cap?

Stanton is a great player .... but 325M for 13 years will mean that you will be in for 100M to him during the time he is 35-38 .... A very heavy cost that makes it very difficult to mange to ...

Because a large and long term contract could potentially set the team back? When was the last time the Giants management signed a free agent a 5+ years contract who was not originally a Giants? In the past decade I only remember Zito and Rowand. We know how those contracts worked out. Not saying that the management should never do that if they find the right player that but it's been working well the past few years without doing that.

Because we don't have a printing press in Sabean's office. While there isn't a cap, there's still a budget.

AND...

Just because there is no HARD cap, does not mean there is no cap. The luxury cap is still stifling, and the Giants want to avoid hitting that. This is why I am actually legitimately (relatively) upset about the Timmeh contract. They signed him to a loyalty/marketing deal, but that is now handcuffing the org in bettering the team due to roster space and luxury tax concerns.

I completely agree with your point, although you are wasting it on Nolan, who is just trolling to get us to agree with him that the Giants are cheap.

But Stanton's deal is an interesting case. Obviously he won't be nearly the player he is now 10 years from now, but 10 years from now $25 mil will get you about what $12-15 mil does today. He may still not earn that but he won't be that far off.

The Giants played this offseason very well IMO, focusing on being competitive in 2015 (they are) but also long term health (2016 has better FAs to pursue, and the team will have far more $ available).

He'll be performing in the minors, or on another team after we trade him.

Doesn't hurt to have him in the minors if (when) Pagan or someone else gets hurt.

I'd take Justin Maxwell over Ishi as 5th OF as well

Forgot about Maxwell...

While I like Ishi for the #5 spot, I do go back to my original questioning of signing him at all.

I PROCLAIM MY IGNORANCE AND I HAVE YET TO SEE THE BRILLIANCE OF SABEANS PLAN!

We do seem to have an excess of 3rd through 5th outfielders, maybe a couple will get traded.

The Giants are loaded with money. They sell out every game. I don't care how much they spend, just about the quality of the product they put on the field.

Of course you don't care how much they spend. It's not your money. The reality is the team and its owners aren't willing to go above a specified budget.

Can't argue with the Giants recent success but I think in general that the teams who are in it to make money instead of to win will be less successful. Professional sports teams, in my opinion, should not be run like a normal business. I cringe every time I hear billionaires talking about "the budget".

It is Sabean's expertise along with Bochy's skill and leadership that has made the team successful despite ownership's budget restrictions.

As owners that is their prerogative and I suppose they didn't get to be billionaires by throwing money away but an owner who is making his income from his team is really up against it when competing with those for whom the team is just a perk of having made their money elsewhere.

I hope not. We already know he can do that. I hope he breaks out a little this year. I liked what I saw of him in the playoffs for the first time. I saw what I thought was some confidence at the plate.

Well, Aoki's career Batting Average is 30 points higher than Blanco's....and he strikes out about half as much as Blanco.

Other than that, they are identical. lmao

OPS+, dude. Try embracing the 21st century. Park factors count.

A fast, good glove, little power hitter. Blanco.
