On Tuesday, Jones headed to the Nashville, Tenn., area to visit with a couple of the Vols’ top remaining targets in the 2015 class — four-star cornerback Ugo Amadi, an Ole Miss commitment from Nashville’s Overton High School, and Top247 defensive end Kyle Phillips of Nashville’s Hillsboro High School — both of whom are planning to be early enrollees. It was UT’s final visit with Amadi before his scheduled announcement of his final decision Monday at his school. Amadi plans to choose between Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU. Phillips, meanwhile, is scheduled to take his official visit to Knoxville this weekend before making his final decision perhaps as early as next week.

It was an interesting Thursday on the recruiting front with Darrin Kirkland Jr. announced he was moving up his decision to Monday instead of waiting for the Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 3.

Despite his good reviews of Texas the week before we continue to believe Tennessee is very much the team to beat in this situation. Steve Stripling was in Indianapolis earlier this week to see Kirkland and like we said, the vibe around Kirkland continues to be the Vols are in a very good position heading into any announcement.

Tennessee will host four official visitors this weekend and the list looks like three Vol commitments, Alvin Kamara, Chance Hall and Quinten Dormady, along with Kyle Phillips and look for Phillips to be given a lot of attention.

Phillips has been a top target for the last 20 months for Tennessee and this one seems to be coming down to the wire. LSU and Ole Miss continue to both be factors for the four-star defensive end. Phillips' mother is scheduled to join Kyle on his visit on Saturday as Tennessee continues to try and convince both Knoxville is the right spot for him.

In talking to Kyle over the last few weeks, we continue to believe he hasn't settled on a decision and this weekend's visit will be important in the decision making process. We do believe the in-home visit with Tennessee and Phillips went well and it seems there's more hope with him than there was a few weeks ago. But, as we've said, we don't believe a decision has been made.

Robert Gillespie was busy seeing what we believe have turned into Tennessee's top two running back targets here down the stretch as he saw Bryce Love on Wednesday and John Kelly on Thursday.

Love has set up a visit to Tennessee on Jan. 23, a week after he's expected to visit Stanford.

"Tennessee continues to be a factor for Sheriron Jones but the main question in this situation may be numbers. Can the Vols fit another quarterback in the class with so many needs across the board elsewhere?

Regardless, Jones maintains he will visit in January and by then the numbers question may look a little more answerable."
