Trading for Kemp really worries me.

Pros:
-In 2011 he was one of baseball's best players.
-Only 29
-Despite regressing tremendously from his 2011-2012 run, he has still hit .272/.334/.414 with 14 HRs and 14 steals over the last two seasons (167 games).
-Always the possibility he returns back to his MVP form

Cons:
-Attitude and effort
-Contract
-Injuries
-Not the player he used to be and the Mariners might overpay hoping for the guy he used to be.

High risk, with possibly high reward. I used to be a fan of trading for Kemp, but I've really changed my mind on it since the risk is just way too large. The only way the trade would be worth it is if he goes back to being the player he used to be, which is unlikely. I would only trade for him if the price is right, which I don't think it would be.

If the Mariners traded for him, how I would feel about the trade would largely depend on the terms of the deal, specifically how much of Kemp's contract the Dodgers would be taking on.

Ya, I read it earlier. Only if Rosenthal was Miami's GM. One stud is worth 5 prospects in my book. Especially M's prospects...except Peterson. I just wouldn't trade him unless push came to shove.

Stanton is the only guy that I would trade Peterson for. I'd say Stanton is worth Walker, Peterson and whatever else the Marlins would want for him. Stanton is already a great player and I don't think he has even hit his ceiling yet.

The Mariners need to push hard for him. Stanton is the type of player that we need. He is already a great player at a young age, hasn't even peaked yet (IMO) and plays a position our organization is extremely thin at.

I would give up everything the Mariners have for him, it would be worth it in my opinion.

But we are going after Stubbs. Isn't that enough? :)

I really wish they would have done that Maurer + Franklin for Zobrist deal when they had the chance. Zobrist's .358 OBP would immediately be the 2nd highest on the team. His .267 BA would be the 3rd highest on the team and his 8 HR would be tied for 3rd highest on the team.

Zobrist would instantly be a huge offensive and defensive upgrade for the Mariners. Maurer has good stuff, but he projects as a good bullpen arm if he's lucky. Franklin has no place in the Mariners organization seeing as how Cano has 2B down for years and he looks to be 3rd on the organizational depth chart at SS.

You'd be trading a relief arm and a spare part for an instant upgrade with Zobrist.

I have mixed feeling on that trade. I hear what you are saying about Zobrist and I would like adding him as a piece to the puzzle, but I do hesitate in the trading of Maurer. I know he is just a RP and I have always believed you can easily replace RP's so trade them if you can get value back, but I just think we could get more for him.

As I am a big believer you go for it when you have your chances, I have fallen back to my belief that I don't think we have a chance even with an addition of a Zobrist and Morales. I just don't believe our pitching will stay at the same level as it did over the first 100 games, and we have already seen our bullpen falter more now than in the first half, so even adding two good, not great, hitters only evens out the pitching depreciation.

Maybe not out of it, maybe never really in it.

pitching got us here, and that's it. even through this bad 10 game stretch, they've averaged an ERA just barely over 3.00 while going 3-7.

all about the bats if there's any hope of improvement.

if not this year, looking forward to seeing what z does this offseason.

Two weeks ago I was against Zobrist. But after the last few weeks and the offense we've seen im all for him.....

Too late though. The Rays are hot and coming on our 6 real quickk.

Welp he clearly put the Ms on his no trade list for a reason. He clearly has no interest in playing here without $$ he won't earn. Move onto a guy we can just "capture" I suppose

Do you think it would be worth it?

He seems like a nice fit, but maybe I'm missing something.

No. It would be about $20M for 2 1/4 years of a currently 37 year old OF playing in the National League and in a small park. If we were a real spender, then yes. But since we hold on to every penny, that $20M could go elsewhere though getting a guy to sign here is next to impossible of course.

Yeah, the "real spender" part is what makes it seem like this would be impossible.

WEEI.com's Rob Bradford was told by a rival general manager that a Jon Lester trade is likely to be completed late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

The Red Sox have already scratched Lester from his scheduled start Wednesday, suggesting a deal is imminent. The Brewers, Blue Jays and Orioles, three teams that have been connected to Lester, have been ruled out as potential landing spots. The Pirates, Mariners, Cardinals, Dodgers and Marlins are among the clubs that have been linked to Lester

Looks like another 5 inning start for Walker in Tacoma. 5 in, 4 r, 6 h, 2 bb and 93 pitches. Can't imagine him being the center piece of anything significant

I'm honestly much more interested in Paxton than Walker. Any news on his latest rehab start? Wasn't he supposed to pitch in Tacoma sometime soon after his Everett stint?
