Was Mac getting first line minutes last season?

His line, with Turris and Ryan, was the best last year but Spezza's line got the best PP minutes and other first line perks.

Mac played 3rd most TOI among forwards but he was kind of a fix it guy who did a bit of everything. Just under 18 minutes per game trying to get lines going who went stale. It was kind of weird because Spezza's line was getting more of the offensive and "first line" minutes but other teams were treating the Turris line as the bigger threat for much of the season.

Sounds like a fair deal then. Of course, if he had signed a similar deal here a year earlier if he had had a season like that, people would be roasting the Leafs for it.

The Kevin Hayes "sweepstakes" seem a bit dull. Of course, the guy wants money, a chance to play, and a good team. Good luck, young buck.

I don't think so. Four and half mil for a second liner is pretty tame these days. I find it hard to get my head around but that's pretty standard these days. The term might be one year too long but nothing crazy.

On the flip side if the Sens hadn't signed him every too bit douche bag from TO and MOntreal would be chirping about how cheap Melnyk is.

I have to admit at first I was pumped, but now I'm more meh. If he signs with Calgary, that's fine, if he doesn't, I won't lose any sleep over it.

And just like that, Kevin Hayes has signed with the New York Rangers...

@rayferrarotsn: John @Buccigross reports from Dublin on Ray Ferraro's twitter feed that @KevinPHayes12 has signed with @NYRangers #blueshiirts”

Word's out: Kevin Hayes agrees to deal with Rangers. Location was important. MSG's an easy trip for #bigdaddy

Can't blame a young guy for wanting to live in the big city and still be close to home.

And if Melnyk doesn't sign Ryan?

Former Devil over 40 and they don't have a need for him so I say the Rangers sign him.
He would immediately be the best goaler they ever had.

Scott Gomez will attend training camp with the Devils as a tryout. I'll have details up on Fire & Ice blog shortly.

I don't mind the Gomez move. As an AHL/4th line injury replacement type it can't hurt.

Kabarle on the other hand, that move would've made sense 5 years ago, not so much right now.
