Now we just need Joe West and Angel Martinez to pound sand, and the umpiring in the MLB will be 1000X better.

Baseball without Country Joe? May that never happen!

When the umpire starts getting top billing for a game, I will understand West's attitude. But as the game is set up today, fans come to see the teams. Not some old, fat fuck start fights where fights don't need to be started.

I can take Country Joe. Angel? Not so much. Get him out of the game.

Martinez is quite possibly the worst ump in the history if the MLB. How he is a crew chief is beyond me.

I've been to games where he comes out acting like he's a celebrity. Trying to be cute with fans and players. That's now what those guys are for. We're here to watch the players not the antics of gloryhound umps.

And yet, you like the cowboy?

Yeah, cause he seems to be an honest-to-goodness character. Handing out copies of his homemade country music CD in the parking lot in Peoria? LOL Angel is just full of himself with no redeeming qualities and isn't even good at what he does. I think Joe means well.

We are in agreement on Angel (Boring)...

Joe is a hothead. His zone is nowhere near what the book says it should be, and he lets his emotions cloud his calls. He will egg a player on to get a response from him just so he can wag his turkey chin at him and potentially toss him.

He is a drama queen. No thanks. He is one of the arguments FOR robot umps.

Couldn't be more excited about this season in so many ways. As my love of pro football declines, I've never loved baseball more.
I can see why with you. San Diego made some nice moves.

I've always liked the Padres. The M's do commercials with them during ST quite a bit, actually, since they use the same complex.

As a baseball fan in general, I'm super excited about both the AL and NL West this season.

I love the human element. If you watched any Padres games last season, you know Dick Enberg is the biggest opponent of replay and he makes an air-tight case for getting it the hell out of our game. But now there's no going back and computers and robots will start creeping in more and more.

I don't watch any Padre tv feeds. I can't stand the Padre broadcast team. I will, on occasion, listen to the radio team, but that is only while in the car and for short spurts.

What is his argument? I can't imagine an argument against replay, outside of it taking too much time, which is legit, but fixable.

Gotta agree, and Angel is the worst ever. Umpiring in MLB needs some new blood. Cowboy has made it his priority to try and show up players and Managers all too much these days.

Seems the new regime could be afforded more instruction and counsel to become more consistent.

The thought of the strike zone changing and becoming tighter is scary, all in its own right.

My wife and I were at an Red Sox/Indians game in '07. These guys in the row in front of us were heckling the shit out of Youkilis, saying he sucked and he was High School Baseball, etc. (Youk was a good sport about it).

Joe was the 1st base ump and he got all bent out of shape over it. He called the CPD officer over that was on the field and they were threatening throw these guy out for saying "sucks". I thought that was pretty weak.

They spent the rest of the game yelling "Youkilis is not good". Youk thought that was pretty funny.

K-Rod has signed a deal. Anyone got the details? All I heard is that it's not Miami.

He is going back to the Crew...
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Brewers have re-signed closer Francisco Rodriguez to a two-year contract with a club option for the 2017 season.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says the deal is worth $13 million guaranteed. This marriage has seemed inevitable for a while now, but it took all offseason for the two sides to officially come to an agreement. K-Rod posted a strong 3.04 ERA, 0.985 WHIP, and 73/18 K/BB ratio in 68 innings last season for the Brewers while tallying 44 saves in 49 opportunities. He should again be a highly valuable fantasy closer in 2015. Jonathan Broxton is back to setup duty
