This is turning into a horrendously bad draft.

I don't have problems with the player I have a problem with his position. He is an excellent tackler.

Our secondary was bad not because of our CBs but because of our safeties and dline. Secondly, secondary is almost insignificant without a good dline. The permeter is nothing without a solid core. And right now we have gaping holes at DT and depth at dline in general. This pick will not matter unless we address the DT first. Which is not what I want to hear for a first round pick. We should have moved up.

I agree that CB is not an immediate need. However, we would have been reaching really hard for a DT, and I don't think Ha-Ha was the answer either.

Trading up is not as easy as it sounds. For all we know Emery was on the phone trying to trade up for a long time. But it's not worth the kings ransom. We got a very good football player, that will contribute immediately at nickel. Also, we have two CB's over 30, and one coming off of a major injury. It's not unfathomable to think one could go down.

Steelers have drafted three starters. That linebaker ran 4.3, only 230, the de from notre dame in the third and roby.

Shazier will have to learn the 3-4. I believe I read he was a 4-3 backer.

Never know how one will take to that.

Bears finally grabbed a safety.

Not overly thrilled with the RB selection in the 4th.

not thrilled that he used a 4th on a RB or not on the actual player himself? I don't know anything about him. I think we needed to add a RB.

The trend with just about all of Emery's picks is production. (with the exception of Ego- I see him has the Kyle Long of this years draft- potential over production. and as a rotational guy I can't fault his size.)
KaDeem Carey was/is extremely productive in college- and I remember one thing that Trestman valued in RB's was the ability to pass block. His character does give me pause, but as a backup/limited player should give him time to mature.
The Bears also have had some success with late rounders- Jordan Mills was a 5th round rookie who started every game- NOBODY on this board could have predicted that last year. And it looks like the 7th round WR Marquise Wilson will be a factor moving forward too. That gives me hope for Brock Vereen- A high character/captain good blood lines, seems like a decent pick with some value in the fourth.
Sutton had talk of 1st round talent at one point- Both Sutton and Carey were all american players and multiple post season award winners. Can't argue with that.
I'm liking this draft so far- it fills some holes and I truly believe that with the new Dline we now have takes great pressure off the safety position. I'm excited to see these guys. GO BEARS!

I think the one thing that fans get caught up with is POSITION. and forget about draft value.

When you can get first/second round talent in a latter round that's ideal... I believe that Sutton and Carey are those type of guys. And to NOT get caught up in the fan pressure to just draft a position. Safety wasn't very deep after the first couple guys- and I also think that both Haha and Pryor were not value picks at 14.
We also have to see how the draft falls- trends in positions- When the top few of the same position start to go in the same few picks, you have to resist the urge to take one too, and go with the higher value at a different position. Fuller was listed as one of the top 2 CB's in the draft. The Bears took him as the second CB selected. Value. Good Pick. So when we say- WE NEED A SAFETY!! and don't get one you have to see the bigger picture.
Good Draft so far. I like what the overall team is shaping into. Still some holes, sure, but I'm not disappointed in who, where, when they were picked. GO BEARS!

this.

I think Michael Ford can be a serviceable backup, and a 3rd stringer you could get off a practice squad.

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

My grade for the draft so far: D

While I'm not ready to call this draft a D graded draft, it does look like Emery hit positions of need with some of the best players he had to pick from. Like some have posted, each of these guys drafted have been productive players and frankly, even this Vareen kid can probably start a head of Conte. No, Paea probably won't get bumped nor Ratliff, that really wasn't the issue last year, injuries were. These two young guys have shown enough to play, rotate and learn. Do I wish we had Donald? Sure. But, we didn't get a chance to pick him (stupid Rams).

To me the only two starters able players right now are Vareen and Fuller. But, Fuller won't crack the starting line up at a CB because of all pro CB's, be it old, we have now. He could start at nickel. Personally, I think BsGenius could beat out Conte at Safety, so Vareen has a shot.

I have been reading different blog and analyses on the Bears' draft, and I have to say my opinion has changed. I'm actually quite excited about their picks. They are infusing some youth in the D, and the RB they nabbed in the 4rth is a bad ass (off field issues aside).

My cup is half full once again.

David Fales- QB... How many games into the season do we start to hear "Put Fales in!!"

(note: many don't know me on here yet, but I'm a huge Jay Cutler fan, and can't stand the "Orton should have never been traded!" or "We really need to make McCown the starter and NOT resign Cutler" stuff. Everyone knows we hear this every year...ugh.)

Like the pick- needed a backup. Don't think the "developmental" qb is a thing anymore in the NFL. Like What Trestman can do with vets and have faith in Palmer if needed. (Nobody had any faith in McCown last year- and look how that turned out.)
If Fales throws 2 TD's in a preseason game (and no picks) I can promise someone will make an argument that he should be given a chance. ugh...Go Bears!

I'll bet you a million dollars that no one will make that argument if he throws 5 TD's.
