Its not the amount of rangers on that list that bothers me... its the lack of pitching. Especially when its going to be an almost desperate need this offseason to even have a glimmer of hope next year. We are simply unable to sign FA pitchers, so we need to raise them or trade for them. We don't have any guys in our entire farm that I'd even project as being a #2. That's why our draft pick next year is so important. Get the first top notch pitching prospect this org has had in many years. Even better than MP

I can agree with you Terps about this and trying to elevate our game the last 4 years we have traded a number of decent pitchers so I was glad that at least if we traded an older reliever we did go after a young reliever. I also think that one of the things that has hurt our pitching some at the minor league level is that we have had to call up many before they were really Major League ready such as Tepesch, Grimm, Martinez and so on. So instead of them working on their game in the minors they are getting bashed at times trying to work on it at a much higher level.

While many of us agree that Darvish is our Ace many of us would also have to agree that we would not feel real confident if he was pitching against any of the top 3 in the AL West in a playoff game.

Rev......"Pitcher record is irrelevant. I disregard any criticism of a pitcher based on their record. I do know what his record is against teams both above and below .500 including the A's and Angels, and his record isn't important."

And yet, you're the one who quoted the W-L equation re: Martinez, Maddux, and Hernandez in relationship to Darvish.

:noidea:

You've taken your poster life in your own hands by being this critical of Darvish.

All I've ever felt like I've stated about Yu is, "I don't have him on a pedestal, nor am I running the bus over his head."

Does he have the talent - shown as much at times - to be a true # 1 - absolutely. But I've always thought the true measurement of an ace of the staff is "does the team know they can't have a prolonged losing streak b/c every 5th game, our man will call a halt to it?"

I agree we need an up and coming stud pitcher. Root for as many losses as possible this season and let our good scouting team do the rest.

I think there is a whole lotta Skip bayless out there and growing

In my life, I've never known/read/heard a sports columnist I've held in such disdain as I do one Skip Blayless.

Jesus, how many jobs in DFW alone did he get fired from?

My post was sarcasm. I was making fun of the notion that those guys must not be mentally tough because their W/L record wasn't good vs certain teams.

@RangerBlake: Rangers have purchased JP Arencibia from Round Rock and activated Geovany Soto from 60 day DL. Carlos Pena designated for assignment.

@RangerBlake: Arencibia will see most of his time at first base. He started 20 games there at Round Rock.

Good.

As hard as it's been to watch this team this year, I still miss them. I guess when I grew up watching them lose it makes it easier to accept now. I can't wait for tomorrow night. Hopefully our ace pitches like it against a tough line-up.

Exactly. I laugh at myself when I watch a 4 hour beatdown, because it's so hard to watch, but I love baseball too much not to watch.

I am the same way Rev and Justin. I hate this break. I am ready to watch the Rangers. Now I may be ready to change the channel if we start stinking it up but then I will be ready again the next night. Not sure how someone who calls themselves a true fan can just blow it off completely.

I know what you mean. This season has made me question if I'm a masochist because I just keep coming back for more. I haven't been able to watch lately for various reasons, and even knowing how bad the team is doing, I've still missed them.

Well Soto is back and so is JPA so it can't get any worse than 3-22 right?

I really hoped soto would have a solid year. Might be fun to see if he can put together a solid second half and give us what we need for next year.

RR took the loss tonight at RR but looks like he pitched better tonight despite giving up 7 hits and 2 HR's. He only walked 1. Only 2 ER's both on solo HR's

I had hoped those losing days were over for a long while, but unfortunately they've come back too soon. I can only hope we will not be as bad over the second half of the season, playing .500 ball should be our goal....and I'll continue to watch...and grimace.

On a positive note (sarcasm), I read the Star Telegram article about the return of Soto and Arencibia and the hope that it will "boost" our offense...oh my, this is sad...hoping these two offensive powerhouses will improve our offense...grimace....:L
