Homer is not going to trade Meszaros just for shits and giggles and no return if he doesn't have to and trust me, he doesn't have to. Hell, if he can stay healthy for a change, he may even be our 3rd or 4th best option on defense. That sort of depth would be great to have given the disaster of last season with regard to injuries.

The cap deficit is only right at $2 million, which means only three to four players with two-way contracts would have to be sent down to the Phantoms briefly to be compliant come the 1st of October. Then you enact the Pronger LTIR and bring them right back up. Suddenly you have close to $3 million in available space, which is a lot to work with come trade deadline time.

Yeah if they could do it it that way, that's the way they should do it.

I think they will be ok. If I remember correctly, they are over the cap by 2.2 mil after Pronger's LTIR. Now, technically, I think they can still place Courturier, Schenn, Laughton, Bourdon, Gervais and Gustafsson on the Phantoms to get under the cap. Then place Pronger on LTIR. Then call up Courturier, Schenn and Laughton. They are in good shape either way I think. It's just a matter of shuffling the cards on 10/1.

Fairly certain Schenn started at AHL last year. Officially for rehab but they nicely avoided his bonus and they were under the cap. Would they do such a thing? HELL YES!!!!!

The Doobster got a chance at NHL 14 this weekend, played as the Phantoms vs the Flyers. Granted it is just a video game but I almost felt that the Phantoms were deeper at the blue line than the NHL club. Seems like the strength of the Flyers' blue line lies with their prospects which is a complete turnaround from last year where the Flyers prospective dmen were 3rd d parings at best. I think Oliver Lauridsen really changed the complexion of the Flyers farm system. What was once the biggest weakness of the system has now become one of its strengths.

I've always appreciated Gill and would've loved to have him on the team a few years ago. But now, I don't know. The flyers are so deep, or at least expensive, on defense right now I don't see him making the team.

gotta think that would be meszaros.. the canes need someone to replace pitkanen (hainsey is not the answer there).. flyers might actually be able to get some value in that situation

Agreed. After looking at the Canes cap situation, it doesn't look like this trade can happen until after they put Pitkanen on LTIR. I can also see the Canes trying to get the Flyers to pick up some of Meszaros' $$$ since his salary is $5.5 mil even though his cap hit is $4 mil, so that may cause the draft pick to drop if the Flyers aren't willing to do so.

i think i've decided i would prefer to move grossmann instead of mesz.. both are kinda fragile when it comes to durability, but i think mesz is a bonafide two-way dman.. grossmann can shut folks down, but if he grabs 15 points this season i'd be impressed.

He's certainly overpaid for a 5th d-man. Can't find any details on his modified NTC.

true, but when we did see him last he was winning the barry ashbee trophy for the flyers best dman.. mesz is a damn good player, he's just so injury prone it's hard to justify keeping him
