I created one of these for the NLCS, and it worked out pretty well. Besides, we need this thread...

Game 1 is Wednesday

Detroit is going with Verlander, Giants are going with Zito.

Do the Giants stick with Huff? Mota?

Would a rusty Melky (plus media spot light) be an improvement over Huff? Huff has been an absolute embarassment when he has made it into games so far this postseason. I would not even consider Melky if we did not have that black hole, but he is an empty roster spot.

Someone (GP?) recommended Whitey. That would allow C3PO to DH in Detroit, so that makes sense as well.

At this point, I view Melk, Whitey, Peggs, Pill, heck, even ManBur as an improvement over Huff. The question is, does Boch?

Definitely no to Melky. He's a distant memory and best left in the past and forgotten about.

I'd go with Whitey over Huff. That way we can use Sanchez in the ph role which he seems to do well at.

I wouldn't be opposed to Pill over Mota... but I think Mota is in due to some uncertainty with the rotation. He can eat some innings if a game gets outta control.

Bochy has made some weird decisions this postseason (why was Romo in tonight?), and Huff maybe one of them.

But he da boss, and you can't argue with results. He must have reasons and they are probably all emotional/clubhouse/people first moves, not statistical or even tactical

Biggest question mark, game 2 pitcher? Cain goes 3 and 7. Vogey not ready to pitch game 2 unless he goes short rest, not a good idea at all. Tim in game 2? Bum?

Agree with all of this.

Also, I'm sure this has been noticed:

2010: we get a guy late in season who becomes NLCS MVP
2012: see above

2010: we win World Series
2012: ?

Almost 0% chance on Melky based on the statements they've made so far. I say put in Pill for Huff. With the Tigers using Coke as their closer, it might come in handy to have an extra right-handed power bat on the bench.

If this is a baseball decision, it is a no brainer. Anyone other than 4-3 Huffer.

But the Giants may want to honor Huff for his contributions in 2010, and "burn" a roster spot on him. His hitting, and especially his running, have been pathetic.

I would want to honor the man, but geez, his presence really limits the roster. Maybe he will be placed on an "injured" list tonight for running out that rocket DP to second tonight.

OTOH, it has been terrific to see Franchez in the dugout, cheering on his teammates. It must be killing him not to be part of this!

I am all about honoring the guy, but he is simply unable to perform at this point. It is not fair to the other guys in that dugout to burn an active slot on him. He can become a cheerleader like Franchez, Weez, or Zito in '10.

In DH games, we need the ability to put Sanchez or Pill in, that means Pill or Whitey need to be added (I have convinced myself that it needs to be Whitey).

Also, I wonder why RoRo hasnt been in the dugout. He is collecting paychecks from the giants, so he s part of the team, right?

I think Boch is going to DH Panda in Detroit. That would allow him to put Arias at 3B, getting his bat in the lineup and fatboy to the pine.

Zito will go in game 1. If he does well, he pitches game 5. If not, Bum comes out of the bullpen in game 1 and starts game 5. Timmah will go game 2, with Bum backing him up unless he has to clean up a mound shitting in game 1. Tron in 3; Cain in 4. That leaves Tron for game 7.

The Tiggers, much like the Tardinals, have no lefty SP. Thus, X is going to be on the roster, get no starts, and may not get an AB in the WS (he did not get to the plate in the NLCS). He would only come in to face Coke or Smyley, and even then might be Boch's second option behind Riot.

Chez3 will catch Game2 if Timmah starts, and may DH one of the three games in Detroit. I'm leaning toward Timmy out of the bullpen, although that would give us L-L-R-R in our rotation.

Oh, and let's get this Tigger reference out of the way, via the Greatest Movie Villian Of All Time -- Clarence Boddiker:

Game 1 could be huge...

If the giants win, beating JV, that could be a dagger to the hearts of the Tigers. If the giants lose, they wil simply be losing to the best pitcher in the game, and put them in the comfortable position f being down in a series...

Sounds like a no-lose situation for the Giants.

We have Bumgarner/Lincecum as an innings eater, no need to have 5 Starters plus Mota.

The Rain probably had a lot to do with why Romo, Bochy wanted a reliable strike thrower to get through the last hitter so the the game wasn't delayed.

Could happen, but Hector's been better against RHP: 83 wRC vs. Arias's 72. And I'm not sure I'd want to DH someone who usually plays in the field.

And it looked like Lopez was losing his footing, and perhaps his grip. It appeared to me that he actually asked out of the game.

He definitely called either the ump or Bochy over. I thought he was asking for the game to be delayed.
