I certainly don't mind filling out 10 for MVP and 5 for Cy Young, however I don't want to require that for a full ballot. I think it will become very hard to get to 10 ballots if we require that much, especially in early years. I'm all for filling out a full ballot for more debate, however.

The NL CYA race was awfully close in 2011. Could see a case for any of the three pitchers. I remember looking into the difference in WAR between the three pitchers, and I found that strength of opponent was the major separator among them.

The MVP and the CYA are different awards and different factors are measured for each. The MVP has the "value" factor which differs from person to person. A player's role on their team is examined more closely, and as we know, team success is often a big factor in the award. The CYA is a performance award and isn't quite as subjective. It's about who the best pitcher was, and things like teammates and team record don't (or shouldn't) factor into the vote. The CYA isn't "the MVP of pitchers".

IMO, Halladay wasn't as good as Kershaw (thus finishing behind him in the CYA), but he was more valuable to his team.
