Is it just me or is this one of the most ridiculous summers of FA ever? There's still a bunch of very good players to be had, and it's two weeks until camp starts.
What gives?

I wonder if fear over the next CBA has anything to do with it. I would bet a lot of franchises and owners are going to be gun-shy about signing multiyear deals.

G, Did you see the story in the Buffalo News on Kennedy? Pretty good and now they are blaming his agent and not the Sabres.

A bit of the story...
Guess Tim Kennedy's agent really blew this one. While the pride of South Buffalo sits home unemployed because he foolishly was told he was a million-dollar player, former Flyers winger Arron Asham -- an established player on a team that made the Stanley Cup finals -- signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Penguins Friday.
Asham had 10 goals and 14 assists last year. Kennedy had 10 goals, 16 assists. Looks like a million is not the going rate for 26-point rookies.
guess they forgot to mention that 1) asham took a wee bit of a pay cut on that, and it's only a 1 year deal...and 2) didn't TK and his agent ask for LESS than 1 mil before arbitration? or was that just a rumor?
Kovy should sign a 1 year deal with the Sharks for $2M.
The Islanders have already told various agents to let their players know the Isles will invite them to their training camp if they don't sign a deal with anyone. The agents were shocked by this. Especially since there was still about a month before training camp when the story came out. Considering the fact the Islanders have plenty of cap space there training camp roster might be bigger than it normally would be this year.
I'm not positive if the Wings have invited more to camp than usual, but it kinda feels like it. Anybody else's team inviting more than they usually do? I wonder if it's a slowly forming post lockout trend? Maybe because a lot of guys are getting either a lifetime contract or a one year deal?
Of course after last year, I would invite a lot of bodies to Wings camp anyway.
seems like the Canucks have a bout 10 guys, most on one-way contracts, that will be fighting for the 4th line spots
Hansen, Hordichuk, Glass, Rypien, Perrault, Shirokov(2 way), Oreskovich, Tambellini, Bolduc(2 way)
close... 9. not counting a couple of younger guys that could make a case in camp (Schroeder, Sweatt, etc)
Tambellini is good in the shootout. Other than that forget about him. I like Shirokov's skill set. Maybe he makes it this year.
yeah, Tambellini is a funny one. he had such a buzz about him in junior (son of former BC-born Canuck Steve), and in his 2nd year in the BCHL, he got 46 goals and 117 points in just 34 games... it just never transferred to the big game.
for the spot duty (I am assuming) for the isles, not embarrassing numbers. Extrapolates out to 16 goals / 32 pts over a full season in his 11 minutes. I presume if he makes the team he will be this year's Wellwood.... 4th line duty, with PP minutes on top of that.
Shirokov as well... in the pre-season last year he was a world beater. head and shoulders above the other prospects. Regular season started, and he looked like a deer in headlights. scared to do ANYTHING. He was demoted to the AHL after 6 games, and the first headlines out of Manitoba were "this guy does NOT belong in the AHL". he was putting on a show every night. then that faded, and he ended up with a meek 22 G / 45 pts for the Moose. he tied for the team lead in goals, but that's still a pretty 'meh' AHL total. tremendous talent, but I would be very surprised if he stuck.
