He hits the occasional HR here and there which makes some people forget that he really is the worst catcher in baseball when you combine both offense and defense. Even for a backup, he's awful. If you hit well below .200, you had damned well better be able to field your position, and Chirinos ranks near the very bottom in pitch framing, runners thrown out, opponents avg., and DWAR.
We are better off with Nichols up here. He at least gives a LH bat.
