I will say, it’s not the absolute ass whooping that I expected, between Kobe and KAJ.

I am actually surprised Kobe made more defensive first teams.

His offensive prowess really overshadowed his defense.

I don’t remember him as a lockdown defender to that degree.

Yes, KAJ had a bit more competition from the center position when you were literally allowed to clothesline players, and not get ejected.

But, Kobe played in the Mike era…

The Tony Allen era…

Im impressed.

I'm not saying Kobe is the better player. Far from it actually. I'm just looking at it from the perspective as a Laker.

Kareem wasn't only a phenomenal college player, he was also destined for the HOF before he even came to LA.

This is where Kobe leads the Lakers in:

It’s definitely KAJ, statistically.

Even if you take off the chip KAJ won in Wisconsin….

The MVP’s end the debate for me.

I have a slight issue with MVPs in a way.

Steve Nash has just as many as Shaq and Kobe combined. As does the Joker.

Derrick Rose has just as many as Dirk, AI and Kevin Garnett

It all depends on the decade you play in, and the competition at the time.

Love me some Joker but if he played in the 90s against guys like Shaq, Hakeem, D.Robinson, Zo and Ewing, no way does he win two MVPs.

And i'm not trying to say MVPs are worthless, but they shouldn't be the ultimate benchmark.

You can’t use that in this situation.

KAJ actually earned his MVP’s.

So, this argument doesn’t work.

No, I completely agree with that.

But i'm saying it shouldn't be a detractor for Kobe's career.

Impressive argument backed up with statistical data.

Well done.

But, I’m dug in…lol

I do see why you lean Kobe.

It isn’t as cut and dry when you see the raw data.

I'm not challenging anyone on this. This is purely my personal opinion.

Both Magic and Kareem were better players.

But Kobe spent 20 years with them and holds pretty much every major record with the team.

Plus 5 championships.

And has the Robin-turned-Batman fairytale story.

That's my reasoning for it.

Magic played his entire career with the Lakers and has as many chips, in 7 fewer years.

He also has 3 times the regular season MVP’s, and 1 more finals MVP

Cases can definitely be made for all 3.

…..also..

Look at the all defensive team numbers….:rofl::rofl:

Safe to say that when picking the greatest Laker...you can say Magic, Kareem or Kobe and not be wrong.
