Competition for what?

Getting that 1st chip?

I would say, if the Suns don’t get it done this year, the Thunder will pass the Clippers, and with the correct additions, could pass the Suns……NEXT YEAR.

Of the 3, 1 has a present….Suns.

1 has a future, Thunder.

Clippers keep clipping.

Is anyone overly impressed with this Phoenix team?

I am not.

I just don't quite understand why people hate a team, unless they're a rival or they're the best in the league for a long time.

I get why Lakers and Celtics dislike each other. Even Lakers and Clippers due to them being in the same city.

I understand why recently people hated on the Warriors. Or the Bulls in the 90s.

Or even the Lakers in the early and late 2000s if we're looking at recent hate.

But this current Lakers team is a 7th seed, didn't make the playoffs the last year, and other than the bubble 'chip, they haven't been relevant in the NBA in over a decade.

So what's with the random hate for them?

Not a single team has overly impressed me as clear cut favorites.

One thing that seems most likely though is that the winner of the title will be coming out of the East however.

Lakers have moments where I think "Holy shit nobody can beat them", then I realize they have 36 more minutes to play and they fuck it all up in that time.

Not saying GOAT. Greatest Laker. Big difference.
Well in my mind if you are a Laker and in the goat conversation you are the greatest Laker. But I’m sure you have your reasons.

I do.

The same reason why Lebron isn't considered the greatest Laker of all time even though most people have him ranked higher than KAJ and Magic all time.

Pretty common sense, which seems to allude a few people on here...

It’s not like Kareem only played for the Lakers 3 seasons. Only the stupid would try to call Lebron the greatest Laker.

It's about history. Since 1972, the Lakers have won 12 championships. No one else comes close. That's just titles. Not even the number of times they've made the finals or just made the playoffs. Since about 2010, the Lakers have had the worst stretch of years in their history...and still managed to win a championship.

Even the Celtics, who have as many titles as the Lakers, won most of theirs in the 50's and 60's, so they don't have the same level of success as the Lakers in modern NBA history.

Seeing that much success for 1 team can get pretty annoying when it's not your team.

Hell, if I had become a Suns fan like my family tried to get me to be when I was kid...I'd probably hate the Lakers too. lol

"Well in my mind if you are a Laker and in the goat conversation you are the greatest Laker."

So Lebron is a Laker. Does that make him the greatest Laker?

Or does tenure and achievements make a difference too?

Yeah I didn’t mean it that way but I understand. I’m saying Lebron isn’t considered a Laker for any of that, he wasn’t there long enough. Kareem certainly was.

Cool.

So now compare Kareems tenure with just the Lakers with Kobe's

Kareem wins every time. He was there long enough to go into any HOF as a Laker. That’s the criteria for me.

For me, it's Magic.

He actually had a greater impact on the Lakers than Kareem.

In fact, you could make a case that Magic revived Kareems career.

There is one Laker that should always be mentioned in the goat conversation, it’s not Kobe.

You know what’s remarkable?

They we’re both the same killers in the playoffs, when it counted most.

Just consistent in the biggest moments.

Playoff and Regular season numbers nearly identical, in some cases a scotch higher in the playoffs.

No Cliff Robinson, Playoff P shit here.
