There are some people who believe that 2001 was written as a first draft to faking the moon landing. When you go back and read the book, a lot of the stuff from the story actually happens in the next several years of space exploration.

Have to put that on my list of books to read. I do have the book about a luxery liner named Titan that on its maiden voyage hit an iceberg and killed most of the richest people in the world. It was written 20 years before the Titanic.
