Maddux was great and all.....

OH YEAH HE WAS!!!:yahoo:

Agreed... Clemens has three seasons with a 200+ adjusted ERA. Maddux has two.... While Maddux's ERA+s are greater than Rocket's, Clemens K totals put him ahead (IMO).

RJ is right behind with 2 seasons with 190 ERA+... His K rates are even more impressive than Clemens...

Clearly the top three here... Almost interchangeable in a draft like this....

It might be interesting to see who everyone has/had as their top five or ten in this 1990 draft...

I would have had:

1. Bonds
1a. Clemens
3. Brett
4. McGwire
5. Maddux
6. Alomar
7. Ripken
8. Henderson
9. Johnson
10. Sandberg/Yount/Boggs

1 Bonds
2 Johnson
3 Rocket
4 Jr
5 Henderson
6 Gwynn
7 Brett
8 Maddux
9 Puckett
10 Boggs

Randy and Rocket ranked over Maddux because they seemed to become even more dominant on the playoffs, while Maddux seemed to go the other direction

The hitters are insane. Bonds without a doubt is #1, but when I couldn't find a spot for guys like McGuire, Murray, Molitor, or Sandberg is sick. Maybe the best era ever, right there with the 20's and 50's

All 90's lineup

DH Rickey Henderson
RF Tony Gwynn
LF Barry Bonds
CF Jr
3B Brett
1B Murray
SS Yount
C Carter
2B Robbie

Johnson
Clemens
Maddux
Ryan
Glavine

Eck
Smith

Reardon
Righetti

Question we don't need a actual closer correct? The people who did take a closer that player counts as a RP?

You will draft a team of players who HAD TO HAVE PLAYED during the 1990 season.

Meaning at least 1 at bat or 1/3 inning pitched

We will draft a team consisting of.

1 - Catcher
1 - 1st Baseman
1 - 2nd Baseman
1 - Shortstop
1 - 3rd Baseman
1 - Rightfielder
1 - Centerfielder
1 - Leftfielder
1 - Designated Hitter
5 - Utility Players (Position Players)
5 - Starting Pitchers
6 - Relief Pitchers

TOTAL = 25

Players will be judged on their Prime years.

I assume you don't need a pitcher that was a 'closer' - but I assumed we were constructing workable rosters.... I think you should name one of your releivers (probably your best one) the 'closer'.

I plan on drafting my relievers with the idea of including a closer, main set-up, lefty, long-man/spot starter.

I plan on drafting a bench with a corner IF, Middle IF, C, & 2 OF... I plan on including a primary pinch hitter and primary pinch runner.

Well put...

I picked Ripken over Yount beacuse of his 'prime' MVP year... oWAR 9.2 - dWAR 3.4.

For the same reaon I put McGwire over Murray (in this draft)... his stupid 70 HR year....

I'd take Frank Thomas or Rafael Palmeiro over both of them...

That's a fair point. I thought a case could be made for Molitor over Robbie, MAYBE Boggs over Brett and Puckett over Jr as well. Kirby can't touch Jr's numbers, but his intangibles are off the charts

Thomas, yes. He had some great years. I just noticed how awesome his 94 season was ...

But Palmeiro, not so much... easily fouth with this group...

In your opinion, in my opinion i'd take him all day over McGwire.

True. And in drafts like these, it is people's opinions that matter...

Agreed, and IMO Palmeiro is easily a better choice, Palmeiro is easily the better baseball player, much better hitter, much better fielder and he didn't miss anywhere near as many games as McGwire did.

I think Raffy belongs right there with the other three. Lefty who hit for power and average, had a good glove, and was clutch

For drafts like these, when we are comparing stats, what would you put up for Palmeiro?
