Laurel is a much nicer track than Pimlico but the problem is tradition has always had it at Baltimore and the city of Baltimore doesn't want to let it go

Replace 'horse' with 'Carl Lewis' and 'Kentucky Derby' with 'Seoul Olympics' and it's essentially the same thing just 30 years later...
