I do like that this game is meaningless so Heston can just go out there are work.

Who cares about the line. Just work through your issues.

FA does take into account all plays, some routine, some harder. Players like Arenado get to more balls than most other 3B, so his chances of making an error are higher. And making a Must C clip higher as well.
This is exactly why FA is near worthless.

Unfortunately, there is not a single defensive stat that I put any trust into.

Nolan has made some great plays at 3rd, no doubt, but he also has 17 errors for a .966 FA

Duffy has 12 errors (less games) and his FA is .964

So either Arenado is not quite the excellent fielder we thought, or Duffman is every bit the fielder that Arenado is, without the spectacular plays.

Arenado is a spectacular fielder, no doubt about it. Many of Arenado's errors are a result of, 1 (as you mentioned) he gets to more balls than any other 3rd basemen and 2, the terrible Coors field infield.

He, by far, is the best defensive 3rd baseman in baseball. SABR Defensive Index rankings released through September 13, 2015 | SABR

Kendrick comes in with one of the worst starting pitchers' ERA in all of baseball. So guess who is looking like Greg Maddux?

And Heston is looking like Kyle Kendrick.
Heston looked good (minus the home run allowed) the first two innings. Then he had to go and walk the pitcher in the 3rd. It all went down hill from there. Now I'm getting concerned about him for 2016 (I felt like one of the last holdouts for him on the board).

Jinx.

At this point, it's only Bum and Peavy. Giants have to sign 2 pitchers. 1 top tier and 1 mid tier would be excellent.

Cueto/Price and Chen. If we can stretch the wallets, Cueto/Price and Leake.

I'm fine with showing more World Series highlights instead of this game, CSNBA.

Can't really see Heston starting in the 2016 rotation.
Let's look at how those vying for spots (or have spots locked down) in the 2016 rotation have fared in September/October (only those currently on the roster):
Bumgarner - 6 starts, 0.937 WHIP, 2.74 ERA
Heston - 6 starts, 1.659 WHIP, 6.04 ERA
Peavy - 5 starts, 0.757 WHIP, 1.99 ERA
Cain - two relief outings, 1.667 WHIP, 9.00 ERA
Leake - 6 starts, 1.281 WHIP, 4.42 ERA

Yeah, Heston should be the odd man out, based on September at least. But I'm a bit concerned about Cain as well.

Boch, can you pitch your son tonight? Don't be the too hard on his son type of manager.

This topic Jon and Kruk are discussing right now has me thinking, I doubt the Pirates will make the same mistake of not starting their best pitcher in the Wild Card game, and Maddon is the most analytical manager in the game, so we're probably going to see a hell of a pitching duel between Arrieta and Cole. Already looking forward to that game.

His numbers earned him a promotion, not his name. Even Gearrin has been used more. I'd like to see Brett pitch.

I completely forgot he was still around. Getting the Petit treatment.

This could be a Coors Field special at the China Basin.

I'm gonna predict that Mac-attack gets his first big league homer today.

Well, the Rockies held up their part of the bargain, and Mac would have had his first homer in ANY other ballpark.
