You compared 1971 Nebraska to modern Mississippi St. The criteria is to view teams in how they stacked up to their peers. Just own up to your butt-hurt stupidity and be done with it. :L

"The '53 Cadillac Eldorado was one of the finest cars ever.
Basic 2005 Ford Taurus 1/4 mile = 17.2 seconds
1953 Cadillac Eldorado 1/4 mile = 19.2 seconds
2005 Taurus has power windows, door locks, steering, brakes, handles better and has a CD player.

2005 Taurus >>>> 1953 Eldorado."

So who would win genius modern day MSU or 1971 Nebraska and how does that take anything way from that 71 team? Your skin is so thin you risk death just by shaving.

We need some OU fans to bring up Bud Wilkinson's teams from the 1950s. Winning 47 straight and three undefeated years is way better than anything Florida did.

I was thinking the same thing! 47 straight in any era is by definition one of the best!

I was just smh in bewilderment of the Tejas fans sticking up for 08' OU! Boomer Boys:yahoo:

You know as well as I do some idiot is going to get on here and say the 1971 Cornhuskers would kill the 2011 Alabama team. So yeah it probably does need to be spelled out because it is not apples to apples just like I don't think pro baseball records are either but they are represented as such.

Now get your panties unwadded.

You have your panties wadded, WT.

What is the thread titled? Urban Meyer thinks 2008 Florida is the greatest EVER. Urban Meyer is the one comparing his team to the teams in the past. I merely pointed out that a team in the past did something his 2008 gator team couldn't do, go undefeated, and beat the #2 ranked team, twice.

Since it was already pointed out that Florida lost to a 9-4 Mississippi team, I just added more data for the comparison.

Get back to me when your team is undefeated and untied and beats the final ranked #2, #3, and #4 teams. There cannot be any complaints that Nebraska did not take on some powerhouses. Nebraska won in Norman, Oklahoma and in Miami, Fl.

Florida won its Bowl game in what state? Florida. If Oklahoma didn't travel so well, that would have been a home game. Needless to say, the Florida players had very little travel wear and tear on them, unlike the Sooners.

Florida lost to Mississippi at HOME. Florida beat two teams that ended up having two losses. Alabama and Oklahoma. Alabama lost to Florida and Utah.

Utah was undefeated in 2008 and BEAT ALABAMA. If anything, Utah could be considered better than Florida was in 2008. Utah was undefeated.

Texas only had one loss in 2008, to Texas Tech. Texas Tech finished 11-2, whereas Mississippi finished 9-4. Texas was probably better than Florida in 2008.

Is that better WT? Or do you still want to defend Coach Urban Meyer?

Great team the problem is in today's game last years Mississippi State's team probably beats the 71 Nebraska team just from an athlete standpoint. When talking best teams you almost have to pick them by era or decade because it's almost impossible to compare them.

I totally agree. You have to go by era when talking the best teams b/c '13 Baylor would drop 60 pts on '71 Nebraska before halftime. If Urban Meyer is talking the BCS era, '08 UF isn't even top 10. IMO:

1. '04 USC
2. '01 Miami
3. '05 Texas
4. '00 OU
5. '09 Bama
6. '02 tOSU
7. '12 Bama
8. '98 Tenn
9. '10 AU
10. '14 FSU
11. '03 LSU
12. '11 Bama
13. '08 UF (Lost to Ole Miss, at home. Enuff said)
14. '99 FSU
15. '06 UF
16. '07 LSU

But if we're talking all time, as much as it pains me to say it, '95 Nebraska hands down. Hell, that team could probably whip any team from today's era, too.

I honestly can't believe you guys are so bent out shape about a comparison I made between two teams decades apart. I used to think Texas fans were the most sensitive group out here but damn you guys are giving them a run for their money.

For the record I wouldn't defend Urban Meyer on anything in my book he is a snake in the grass and I don't think the 08 Florida team deserves to even be in the discussion. Now if it makes you feel better I don't think there is a valid argument there is a better team in the decade of the 70s than 71 Nebraska but 2013 Mississippi State still kills them that is just common sense.

They were a seriously good team. I don't think they crack the top 5 of all time best teams though.

That's my point. It's "common sense", so why even inject such stupidity into the conversation?

Greatest teams of all time can only be realistically compared to their peers at the time. How bad said team beat it's peers utilizing scores and statistics.

Shove 2013 Mississippi St up your ass. They've got no place in the conversation.

The teams from 20 years ago would get stomped by the top teams now. The teams from 40 or 50 years ago aren't even playing the same game.

So basically you're pissed at me because I'm right, made an accurate statement but you just view it as sacrilegious because you perceive that I have dissed your beloved Cornhuskers and that is the equivalent of attacking your self esteem.

Got it. Sorry I made you feel bad about yourself and I won't do it again.

I don't even agree with the order you have the Alabama teams.

The 09 team had a ton of heart, but they were not better than 11 or 12.

I've always felt the 2004 Auburn team could beat the 2010 team as well.
