2013 Nats- 86-76 no playoffs, 10 games behind the Braves
2014 Nats- 96-66 NL East Champs
2015 Nats- 83-79 no playoffs, 7 games behind the Mets
2016 Nats- 95-67 NL East Champs

Over 6 months, the difference between 96 wins and 86 wins is less than 2 a month. It's a big deal for the standings but it hardly suggests the Nats "fall apart" in odd seasons. It might mean that in a couple of these cases, their competition just sucked a little more during given years.

They have to just be looking at a rental at 3rd since Devers looks like he's only a year away. He's hitting better than Benintendi was in AA last year, and he's a year younger. I think they are going to stick with Sandoval for now and add a depth piece for cheap.
