I do hope you are right but I just can't be optimistic when I continue to see it daily even in my small town in western Canada. White priviledge and self entitlement are very evident and even though I try to do my best to call it out when I see it, I don't think I make any difference. Everyone has to change and I fear most are unwilling. It makes me ashamed to be a white man in this world at times and I should not have to feel that way.

I hear you. I have thought for a long time that we are in a second Civil Rights Movement where we are now in the process of trying to change people's hearts and minds. This will be ten times harder than the first Civil Rights Movement where we eliminated many of the laws and institutions that kept blacks at the margins of society. As I said in a previous post, societies are like people in many ways. When people are confronted with bad behavior, actions, etc., many times our first response is a defensive one and denials. But over time, we sometimes allow ourselves some self-reflection so that we can make changes and admit the error of our ways. White society has a shit load of work to do in regard to looking inward and realizing our legacy in all of this.
It will take a lot of time but eventually the older folks die off. Younger people are much less racist on average, racial stuff that scares their parents isn't that big a deal to them.
Maybe not. Maybe he really cared about the issue four years ago, but didn't say anything back then because of PR reasons. So either this is all about PR now, or all about failed PR from four years ago, or a bit of both.

I agree in principle that should be tge case but sadly, those old folks have raised their kids as racists and I often see it. Up here in western Canada, it's the indigenous community, the Asian and Indian foreign students that bare the brunt of it more than black people but it is there and ingrained.
