It may not have felt like it, but the Redskins’ pass rush was actually quite effective in 2019. The team notched 46 sacks for the second consecutive season, which was the tenth-most sacks in the league and was their best total since they put up 50 of them in the legendary 1991 Super Bowl season.

Their sack rate of 7.85% ranked eighth in the NFL this year and was their second-best clip, behind only their 7.89% last season, in just shy of 20 years (8.88% in 2000). They also finished fourth in Football Outsiders’ adjusted sack rate with a percentage of 8.3%, their best showing in the 24-year history of the metric.

The Burgundy and Gold D allowed 6,162 yards and an average of 34.9 yards per drive, which gave them rankings of 27th and 29th in those respective categories. The only other time a Washington defense gave up more yards was in 2010, when the Mike Shanahan led club got pasted for 6,228 yards, which is 66 more yards than the team allowed this season.

The defense ranked 27th in points allowed (435) and 30th in points allowed per drive (2.38). The only club with a worse point differential (-169) was the Miami Dolphins (-188). More disturbingly, that is the third-worst margin in Redskins’ history (-218 in 1961 and -225 in 1954).

Injured Reserve Redskins- To say that the Redskins were plagued by injuries in 2019 would probably be something of an understatement. They finished the year with 24 players on some type of injury list (22 on IR) and had the most cap room tied up to players on injured reserve.

i would submit a crappy defensive coordinator and a sloppy secondary were the driving forces on this

The good thing guys is we are in a can't lose position. No Bruce Allen so hopefully that means we won't f it up! We can stand pat at take Young, which is probably the most likely scenario. SF was in a similar position as us last year and they took Bosa at #2 and look at their turn around. I'd say we are similar in the front 7 to them, perhaps they are a little better but we would have a front 7 full of guys from Alabama, Ohio St, Miss St. All were highly rated big name players. Now SF is probably better in the secondary but there are similarities for sure. On the other hand......trade down. If you told me we would get Jeudy and Johnathon Taylor plus another pick that is late 1st or 2nd rounder. If you can turn that into a TE and Trent Williams comes back, then we would have the makings of a pretty good and young offense with Haskins at QB, D. Guice, Taylor and Bryce Love at RB and then WR core of Jerry Jeudy, McLauren, Sims in the slot and Kelvin Harmon as our #4 WR. Use the rest of the draft to work on the secondary.

Think about that trade down scenario. We shore up 3 weak links with very possibly eventual pro bowl caliber players. Do we lose out on the next possible Lawerence Taylor (I'll believe that when I see it, there has never been another Lawerence Taylor yet)? Yeah, we do. But I bet it moves us to the win column a lot quicker, I'd bet.

If we do end up staying at #2 and taking Young, i'd really love to see us use a 2nd round pick if we can get one or a 3rd rounder on Travis Etienne. He is a difference maker. I think he has that Kamara fill catching passes out of the backfield. I Taylor will be a 1st rounder. If not Etienne, Cam Akers or Chuba Hubbard would be great options. AP is about done, and Guice is going to forever be an injury risk. gonna have to add someone.

How about a trade down scenario that still gives us Young? Any chance Detroit trades down with us to ensure they get Tua and we don't trade with the Dolphins? We swap 1sts, and we get their 1st next year, and their 2nd and 3rd this year? We still get Young and pick up picks that can help us this year. Is that enough?
