Maybe you've seen the fantastic 30 for 30 made by ESPN honoring this incredible and amazing athlete, and maybe you didn't.

Back in the day when RBs were as big as OL and much faster and stronger, they ruled the world of football. Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Billy Simms, OJ Simpson, Earl Campbell and many many others. Big dudes that could run you over or as easily as run right by you.

However, there was one guy that never 'made it' that looked like he could have been the best of the best.

Marcus Dupree.

I was sitting in Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, NE as a youngster and saw that monster dash down the sideline for a TD like it was easier than eating a piece of pie while ripping my heart out. I'd seen Billy Simms, Herschel, Tony Dorsett, and many other greats. This dude was different.

Nearly 40 years later. What could have been....

Very well stated.

Give a guy like Rex Burkhead his ability, and NFL teams would go full on Wildcat with him as QB.

He was always the fastest man on the field, and at 240 lbs, it was an awesome combination of skills and speed.

I don't think I ever saw him get caught from behind.

If were talking pure talent....Freeking Byron Buxton was the next Micky Mantle. Takes way more than talent.

That Marcus Dupree 30 for 30 was the best one I've seen. He's back in Mississippi and doing very well now I heard. Still comes to Norman pretty often.

Marcus L. Dupree (born May 22, 1964) is a former American football player. He was born and grew up in Philadelphia, Mississippi, where his playing in high school attracted national attention. A highly touted and sought-after college football recruit, he played at Oklahoma, where he was named Football News Freshman of the Year, second team All-American and Big Eight Conference Newcomer of the Year. He left in the middle of his sophomore season and briefly attended the University of Southern Mississippi. Marcus played spring football for the Golden Eagles and finished college at the university.

He joined the United States Football League the following season and signed with the New Orleans Breakers in 1984. He played for the Breakers for two seasons before a knee injury forced him to leave the game.

portland oregon became the new home for the NO breakers, we on the left coast gave the kid a chance…tremendous college athlete/player.

You won’t see highlights like there were of him. A guy that big doesn’t really look that fast, then you keep watching and he is pulling away. Guys like that got stronger as the game went on. Switzer has admitted he was too stubborn and made his biggest mistake with him. Doesn’t make it his fault, but he has said he should have just let him show up on game day and kick everyone’s ass because he had more talent than anyone he ever saw.

Guy had some of the craziest HS video I've ever seen. It was black n white n grainy but holy smokes what a freak even at that level.

Let that be a lesson to all 5 star RB's of today. Steer clear of OU and go to a good school like WVU where people care about you the person rather than just the player..

Back in the day when RBs were as big as OL and much faster and stronger, they ruled the world of football.

Are you saying relative to the size of OL in those days or compared to the RBs now?
