Report: Browns ready to make another push for Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the news and, naturally, the Cleveland Browns are involved.

According to Tony Grossi who covers the Browns for ESPN 850 WKNR, the team will revisit a potential Garoppolo deal with the New England Patriots when the head honchos of each NFL franchise meets in Arizona for the league meetings.

Reports surfaced of the Browns pursuit of the New England quarterback back during the NFL Combine when the entire league was under the roof of Lucas Oil Stadium, so given that they'll be back together again it's not a massive surprise that this topic has popped up again too.

The Browns traded for Brock Osweiler in a deal with the Houston Texans earlier this offseason, but rumblings from Northeast Ohio make it seem like he is not the longterm or short term answer at quarterback for them.

That would appear why they are still reportedly after Garoppolo.

Meanwhile, elite NFL Insider Adam Schefter has reported that Garoppolo will remain with the Patriots for the 2017 season and has been very adamant about that report ever since.

Given his word, it seems dang near impossible to pry him away from Foxboro this offseason.

Then again, with Cleveland's array of high draft picks and the Patriots lack of a first or second rounder, there could be the pieces of package laying around that could be put together to try and knock the socks off of Bill Belichick and company.

Really the question becomes more about Cleveland's willingness to offer such a deal and, more importantly, is New England willing to accept it.

Only time will tell on that.

The Browns would be smart to rebuild this year and sign Jimmy to a contract next year when he becomes a FA.

The "Browns" and "would be smart" get written a lot more than the "Browns" and "were smart".

Who knows they made a smart move with Osweiler to grab a pick. Maybe they keep surprising us. There is no way in Heck I would give up a first rounder for Garoppolo. I just don't see how you could justify that for him. I think an early second could be pushing it, but you have to pay to get a QB in this league. Isn't it likely as we sit here today that the Browns have a better than 50/50 shot at Darnold or Rosen in 2018? No QB is putting them, in the playoffs this year. Just keep building and acquiring pieces as they come and draft your QB next year.

All of this is true. I still believe New England is just trying to run up the price on Jimmy though. I'll bet he is traded before the draft ends.

why not? rob johnson got a first
brett favre got a first
look what minny gave up for bradford

its happened a lot. teams see something they like and gamble. why do you think GB gave up a first for a fat kid from mississippi with 3 pass attempts (and a pick) in his career?

I wouldn't do it because I don't think he is going to be very good. Perhaps that part wasn't clear.
And you can bring up Brett Favre or you can bring up Matt Flynn. IMO it isn't worth it for Garoppolo. But obviously, that doesn't mean NFL teams will agree with my opinion.

having seen him play since day 1, hes is going to be a very good QB in this league. its why the pats dont want him to go.
my personal belief is the pats franchise jimmy after next year, and the team is his. i believe brady finishes up elsewhere, and the plan is to transition to jimmy...the next guy.
that being said, i revert to this excellent piece, full of gifs for your viewing pleasure:

Just how good can Jimmy Garoppolo be?

everyones entitled to an opinion, but i base mine off the things ive seen him do in preseason, practice, and on the field. he has tremendous vision, and the innate ability to move people with his eyes, a trait not every QB has.
my 2 cents having seen him in every phase since bill drafted him (with the highest pick hes ever used on a QB)

I like the kid and I hope he does well (especially if traded).

Wow...You think Brady is going to be traded and finish his career elsewhere starting in 2018??? I literally would pay to see that.

I wouldn't be all that surprised if they traded Brady after this year.

i do, and have since they drafted him....but i think its 2018. i truly feel he wants to go back home out west and finish there, in montanas shoes. i also believe bill knows what he has in jimmy.
ive seen him do this to too many players who were too important at the time too.
franchise jimmy next year. give him the reigns in 2018. brady goes to SF.

Besides the Browns, do we believe any other team would give up a first for Jimmy G, right now?

Minny gave up a future first, not a first that a team could use for the present season. Big difference. The difference between the Browns offering #12 or a 2018 1st rounder.
