The issue for getting that 1st round pick for Butler is that teams are viewing this as one of the best Cornerback classes they have seen in a long time. In fact in general this is one of the deepest drafts probably in the last 10 years. TE's, RB's, CB's, Safeties, and some Pass Rushers will find it difficult to get paid what they would other years because of the draft class. So unless you are top of the FA list or at the OT position this is going to be a tough sell to a lot of teams.

I agree. Part of me thinks BB wants to get that first for him so he can get a guy in this draft and have him under control for 5 yrs. IMO the damage is done with Bulter and the Patriots. They refuse to pay him (i know they don't have too) and are going to tag him next yr at a high price. If BB can get out of that and draft another good kid, he will.

Great pickup of Allen. They have him for the next 3 yrs and we don't have to worry about who is going to back up Gronk. I still think they grab a TE in this class, but they no longer have to double dip at that Pos. I think we see Allen do exactly what Marty did while here.

BB must really love him some Allen? Unorthodox for him to jump into FA so early.
Maybe he surprises us once again zigging where he always zags.

Not a free agent......it's a trade 2017 4th and 6th round picks for Allen and a 5th round pick.

Free agency starts at 4:00 PM today.................................tick tick tick

So the Pats are spending #1 CB money for an AFCE CB, but it's not Revis or Butler, it's Stephon Gilmore. Interesting.

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore is staying in the AFC East, as he is expected to sign a five-year deal with the New England Patriots, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Gilmore, 26, bounced back from a rocky start last season with the Buffalo Bills to become one of the NFL's best available free agents this spring.

After the Bills exercised Gilmore's $11.082 million fifth-year option in May for the 2016 season, the two sides failed to reach a long-term contract agreement before talks ended last summer. Gilmore made his negotiating position clear during training camp, saying he believed he was among the elite cornerbacks in the league.

The Bills chose not to use the franchise tag as the $14.2 million price tag for cornerbacks was prohibitive.

The planned signing of Gilmore indicates that free-agent cornerback Logan Ryan will not return to New England.

Buzz.....buzz......BUZZZZZZZZZZZ

Rumor mill is churning and the latest is...........................

The Patriots are having serious talks with DE Calais Campbell. This one came out of the clear blue about five minutes ago. Nothing more and I can't find any Boston spots that are talking about it. Everyone is ga-ga over Stephon Gilmore agreeing to sign with the Pats later today.

Word is that Malcolm Butler may still be back with the Pats. Butler and Gilmore would be a great tandem. Maybe Gilmore's contract would be satisfactory to Butler???

The Campbell rumor is totally out in left field. NFL Network is reporting that Campbell has verbally agreed to a deal with Jacksonville Jaguars.

Titans have reportedly offered Donte Hightower a 5 year contract at annual money ranging from $10M-13M with a Total of supposedly $58M with $22M Guaranteed. The Patriots will match.

Something's up. BB is moving more and faster than he has since he came to the Patriots in 1999. He never has made a move on Free Agent Frenzy Day and yesterday he traded for Allen. He's never made a splash on Fre Agent day, today he's already made a major move by locking up Stephon Gilmore. Then there's the rumor he's try to get Brandin Cooks. Just looking at his history it seems like all of this is a dmoke screen for what he's already got in a pot cooking on the back burner.

My gut tells me he's made the JG trade and now he's moving that #12, but not for Cooks but for someone else that will blow our shoes off. Like maybe JJ Watt?

Source: The #Patriots are working on a deal to bring back versatile DB Duron Harmon. It’s expected to happen. More secondary action.
