“The No. 1 statistic that we preach and that I’m really ultimately concerned with, the only stat that matters is the scoreboard,” Barry said. “And as long as we hold our opponent to one point less than we score, that’s the only stat that matters.”

And we wonder why our defense shall be hence forth known as the Bend Over and Take it defense?? I dont know how many of you guys ever played football on any level, but I know the first thing my DC said to us in pop warner was...

Gentleman, we are hunting Goose eggs every time we step onto the field. We will take a win by a point, but our goal is to completely shut down the other teams offense.

Guess its a mindset thing though.

Yeah, I would not be too happy to hear this if I were Gruden or Scot.

This just proves Barry is a total shithead. Even if we make the playoff he should be gone.

Hey Shark I said it once I will say it again. Never liked the Joe Barry pick b/c I like a DC that is very aggressive. My thinking is we are stuck with JB for a while. Why, well to JB defense, logically speaking he really lacks talent on this def. I may be wrong but to me there really isn’t a DC in the NFL that can have even an average defense with the LB’s, safety’s and no elite edge-rushers. We have very below average talent in all 3 area’s and tackling is joke. Yes we are that horrible.

Rod Marinelli and JB both run a similar defense scheme and we see what these Boys are doing defensively. So this type of scheme does work even though it's not my type. They both want the front 4 get after the QB while dropping seven in coverage. Not good when you have no good edge rushers, speedy LB’s or safety’s which probably explain why JB doesn’t blitz even occasionally.

Now here’s is the question, why didn’t Scot McCloughan address these needs early on during last year draft. One thing for sure he better get on it in next yr draft or we will be talking about getting rid of Sott and rightful so!!!!!!!

I disagree we have the talent but not the coaching. We don't have the best talent but its decent enough. We are the worst 3rd down defense in the league b/c Barry doenst bring pressure in pressure situations. I believe Barry is on the hot seat.

I'm not defending barry, but our talent sucks. We have no Dline, no ILBs to speak of, and no safeties. We are extremely weak right up the middle. We make every QB look like the next coming of Roger Staubach and every running back like Walter Peyton. That is why so many teams run ripshod over us. I dont care who our DC is, they aren't making this defense very good.

Now as to the question of Barry, I'm also not sold. I wasn't happy with his hiring and he hasnt done anything to change my mind. But he hasn't had much to work with, either.

The reason why every qb is great against us is that Barry doent bring pressure in pressure situations. We have two guys that will have double digit sack years and Norman. Its enough to be average. We are at the bottom of the league b/c of Barry.

Just who would you bring? Our ILBs are so slow, they offer nothing when blitzing. a safety? Please. a CB? that requires a safety that can roll over and cover a WR. Again, please. We dont have anyone, save maybe Cravens, who can blitz with any authority.

At least 5 people should be rushed on every 3rd and long. that is not happening. From week 1 to now. That is why we are the worst 3rd down defense in the league.

So this begs to question as many have said before the season...Why in the hell do you roll out Compton & Foster thinking they are the answer after what we saw last year which was the same. Never in position to make plays, takes themselves out of plays literally and have below average sideline to sideline speed? All I keep hearing from coaches (likely coaches speak) is that Compton is the "glue" that holds the unit together. There are a lot of factors why our defense is so poor and blame can be displaced to the players, coaching & front office.

Since Barry's mindset has now been revealed, I think it's safe to say he will be gone at years end which should we make the playoff's, will be once the game has ended hopefully. Once that happens, the culture needs to change and Cravens needs to be in the starting lineup next year at SS. Build the defense through the draft and plug in a few FA's to round out the defense and get after it!

I wish I could answer that question, but I can't. Both our ILBs are slow as molasses. They heaped high praise on Compton during preseason, but I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe he is anything more than a backup in this league. Moreover, not even seen much to lead me to believe either are sure tacklers. I can only guess that they were the best we had.

You're missing the point. We rush 5 regularly. All it does is leave a hue hole in the secondary because the talent we bring to blitz can't get there. Why do you think the middle of the field is wide open so much?

Compton aint the fastest kid on the block. BUt neither was LFB. What we lack is a true difference maker beside him. Foster is a backup forced to start. Add to it, Ziggy is our starting NT. Again another backup rotation guy... playing out of position to boot.

What i would like to see is

1. We get a real NT in here, some one demanding of double teams and a space eater.
2. Either have Cravens put on 5 LBS and become the other starting ILB, or move him to FS as the starter and get another difference maker at ILB.

3. We need a thumper at SS. Duke has been ok sort of. BUt we need a play maker out of one of our safty's

Agree for the most part. But Im not sure Cravens has the range or ball hawking abilities to be a FS. If anything, he is better suited to be the SS, playing close to the LOS.

IM not against that move. Either way, we need to get him on the field more.

I agree with that. The kid is an athlete, something our defense is really lacking.

then bring 6. He only brings 4 on a lot of occasions.
