Forget that Monday morning QBing. I said before training camp that Murphy had value.

Everybody except Dean did. Do any of us expect it to keep up at his current pace? Probably not but we all knew he had value...except Dean.

Right he has value at OLB b/c of the JG injury.

You are now looking foolish. He has value because he is producing. As all but you said, he was producing all last year also. You are the only one that predicted him being cut. No one else. So if there is any monday morning QBing going on, it is you.

Many fans had Tm on the bubble just not this board. People who write in to Tandler and CSN is where I saw the most. TM was not producing last year that is why PS got all the playing time. If TM was producing last year like he is doing this year than PS would of only saw the field in a backup role.

Plus many people on here didn't have Hood making the team or starting. So why don't you investigate that?

Smith was drafted by this front office, Murphy was not. Thus there was always a desire to get him onto the field, even if it did make us worse in one ares while improving another. Hood was the beneficiary of a complete disregard of bringing in starting level talent for the D-line. Had we drafted a starting caliber D-lineman, and signed another starting caliber D-lineman, hood would likely not have made this team.

Not the issue. A lot of people on here laughed at the fact of signing Hood. Now he is our starter. PS proved to be the better pass rusher last year that his why he saw the field.

come on man, you still talking up Ziggy Hood??

Fact.. our defense is STILL the worst in the division
Fact.. Our defense is making a strong push to be the worst defense in the league.

For as much as people say Pot Roast and Hatcher were non factors, its funny that we havent heard nary a peep out of Chris Baker, and Kerrigan has been relatively contained.. .this despite the addition of the great Ziggy Hood.

As for Smith out performing Murphy.. again I will point out, Smith was drafted by this front office, so yes they were going to give him every opportunity to shine, much as they did with Matt Jones. Neither Smith, Jones or Hood are performing to the all world level you seem to think they are capable of.

The defense has been bad b/c of Barry not the talent. He doesn't know how to call defenses in specific situations. Im not saying Hood is the savior but I knew he could make this team b/c the lack of talent on the dline. baker had a huge sack last week that rattled manning and caused a fumble. I don't believe RK,PS, and Baker will be quiet all year. It should be a coming out party on Sunday but with Barry you never know.

Right there you nailed it. As I have said multiple times.. if we had brought in capable talent, Hood doesnt make roster. Baker has 1 sack on the season, despite playing in about 85% of the defensive snaps. IF we had better talent on the line, we might have a better over all performance on defense as a whole.

We all knew in training camp that there wasn't talent on the dline. So Hood was a welcoming addition. The defense is struggling b/c of Barry not the talent. Im not saying we have great talent but its good enough to win games. Barry waited until the 4th qtr to start to pressure Manning and Manning's QBR rating went way the hell down. Plus I saw Baker yelling at Barry during the game and I don't blame him.

Welcome addition?? By who?? Most fans saw him as a camp body and realized that if he made this team it should have been at best in a rotational role. The reality that Hood is STARTING can not be viewed as a positive thing. Mike Tomlin is probably still getting a chuckle out of the fact that we started Hood on opening day. Mind you I agree Barry is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but seriously we have two backup/rotational guys and Baker on the line.

doesnt matter murphy is the 2nd best d/lineman on the team and he lines up on the d/line for most of his playing time with his hand in the dirt

his man crush JG is in a walker and most likely through as a viable football player , while TM leads the team in sacks over his much ballyhooed brethren

I say Hood is a welcome addition.

I say TM is currently the second best defensive player on the team.

We need victories and I don't care who it is helping...Josh Gordon next season.

I agree with that. Not saying we have great talent, but we do have enough talent to at least be solid on D. Barry is a D-Coordinator that doesn't just have a record of failure; he has a record of complete and utter failure year after year after year. If you were playing for him and had talent - and knew what his record was as a D-Coordinator, how in the world would you have any confidence in him? I think it's ridiculous for the Skins brass to think the players should have confidence in him. It goes back to Joe Barry being a Bruce Allen hire. Bruce Allen is the biggest joke in the NFL in assessing talent. It's laughable that he was a GM. He's just a guy who's made connections because he's been likable. Joe Barry is the Bruce Allen of D-Coordinators. At some point, they need to get rid of Joe Barry AND make sure Bruce Allen has no say in ANYTHING football related. Those are guys who should retire from football and get involved in dog shows or a food network show.

So you are saying no to Josh Gordon? Zero guaranteed and a million per season?

Wish we could see this production from all our 'back up ST players'

By Anthony Gulizia - The Washington Times - Monday, October 3, 2016

After Trent Murphy played a limited role in the Washington Redskins’ Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, defensive coordinator Joe Barry featured the outside linebacker more heavily in the rotation along with Preston Smith and Ryan Kerrigan.

Murphy played 34 and 37 snaps against the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, respectively, which more than doubled his playing time in Week 1 when he played 15 snaps. Perhaps what was more noticeable last week against the Giants was when Murphy, not Kerrigan, was on the field in a critical third-down scenario.

Barry, meanwhile, said last Thursday that he wanted to incorporate all three linebackers to keep a fresh rotation throughout the game.

In the Redskins’ 31-20 victory against the Cleveland Browns, Murphy was needed in an even greater capacity once Kerrigan injured his left elbow on the first play of the second quarter. Kerrigan said he tried to come back in the game but was in too much pain. He played just eight snaps.

Murphy logged 66 of the Redskins’ 72 defensive snaps and continued his improved play. He sacked Browns quarterback Cody Kessler — his fourth in the last three games — and had four pressures. Through four games, Murphy has already eclipsed his career-high sack total of 3.5, which he set last season.

What is impressive is that Murphy has been this productive, despite the fact that he gained nearly 30 pounds in the offseason to transition to defensive end, and then quickly lost most of it after the team hoped to move him back to outside linebacker. He’s retained most of the strength he gained, though, and it showed on Sunday. Murphy rammed his way through a block by right tackle Austin Pasztor, plus a chip-block from running back Isaiah Crowell, and dropped Kessler for a 6-yard loss.
