The way the Rangers have been playing lately brings out a few fans who are ready to panic, but it also brings out the local radio and blog media overreacting to a few fans overreaction.
We are 20 games over. 500 in spite of how many games we have blown so we have to be glad about that. But I know we will all be much happier when our SP is back up to speed.

We need to find a way to develop our own pitching better than we have in the past. When we missed out on signing Cliff Lee Daniels said as much himself, but that hasn't really materialized yet. There are so many injuries to pitchers that you really run a risk in paying a lot in free agency or in trading a boatload of prospects for them.
JD is at least making the effort. Past two drafts he drafted mostly pitchers. Matuelo's latest injury really hurt and the verdict is still out on Tate. Problem for us now is it takes years to develop and then maybe they amount to something.

We were at one time then used them for trade chips but have started to draft more pitching but it takes time for them to develop. And I am not upset about getting Hamels and Diekman. I think it has served us well overall.
Individual circumstances do work out, but overall it is a risky venture to spend a lot of either type of currency for pitching.

Even extending guys through their early years to gain a year or two of control has proven risky with Holland, Harrison, and Perez. At least with those guys what we risked was less.

Now the currency we spent for Lee was minimal and I am still not sure why Seattle didn't ask for more. That one worked out as well, but given what we gave up it seemed destined to work out from the start.

I love being so far up, but I personally am trying to look forward to see how this team stacks up in the postseason. We are behind where I thought we would be in that regard. I expected much more from our bullpen and I expected better health from our starters.

My main point though is how some in the local media love to point out how much more they know than the fans. To do so they take a small sampling of fans and act as if they are representative of all of us. They take a very condescending tone at times.

It seems like many times when we draft a starter with a lot of promise we start hearing within a year or 2 how they might eventually transition to a reliever. I have already heard that about both Tate and Ortiz. It has been awhile since we had guys steamroll right through the minors and succeed greatly at every level the way Holland and Feliz did a few years back.

We need that kid with the scout friend to tell us what's up with this team. Probably a lawyer somewhere.
