More concerned with who Scot and Jay are sold on. If they believe in him then there is no reason not to sign him.

i feel it will be the same type of set up as reeds just the numbers will be different i.e. higher

I think it depends. I wouldn't want to see a huge contract locking us into a ton of money over the next few years for a guy I and others are not 100% sold on. But I trust scott to get a reasonable deal done. Also what's bad about him playing the year on the tag? Would we be able to move cap space from this year to next if he was extended with a lower cap hit for this year?

Whats bad is, if he does perform as most of us actually hope, he will cost even more to sign.

And yes, if we saved space, we would be able to carry it over into next years cap space.

THe only reason NOT to want to get him signed long term is if you think he will likely fail.

Well I think that goes back to what shark was saying in one of the draft threads. Sure if scott and Jay are sold on him I value that but I'm not gonna just go along with it. If they do something I disagree with I won't just say ok it's fine cuz they said so. To say there's no reason not to sign him if they believe seems like blind faith.

I disagree with that last part. Wanting more info just means you're being risk averse on the matter. Why commit when you don't have to. We don't have that much info on him and we can easily get more by waiting. Sure the price might go up but as I've been saying for a while now, if the price goes up then he's worth whatever we're paying. If he has 4000 yards 40 TDs and 8 ints it doesn't really matter what we pay him. I think you just assume people have some sinister intent when they don't bow down and kiss his feet which is just weird.

I believe that we all HOPE that he performs well, believing that something else will occur is the hallmark of all of Washington's professional sports teams. The Caps being the latest iteration of this phenomenon. Washington's entrants into the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB are all forms of Lucy, the fan base is Charlie Brown!

One season does not a career make. We witnessed that recently enough. I liked Cousins coming out of college so I am not suffering from blind faith or eating Soylent Green. All I can say is we will see.

I will say this ; if NFL players say he is in a the top 100 at 85 then that is a feather in his cap

I think we need another season to be sure

With all due respect I disagree with your last few sentences. To a degree it is the exact opposite. Not sure how much you watch the NHL, but I have been a Caps fan since their first season 40+ years ago when they won 8 games. I don't know of any Caps fan that is a total optimist - we are all waiting for something bad to occur & won't change our minds until the team actually accomplishes something truly significant in the playoffs. Ditto for the Wizards (unless they made a very major FA pickup).

This also applies to the Redskins to a degree. I truly believe that most of us are cautiously optimistic. I don't see anyone here making SB predictions for the Redskins at this time. I also believe that most folks kind of feel the same way about Cousins. He had a very good season last year - we will just wait & see if he can sustain this long term - who knows? You will notice that most replies here stated something similar about Cousins. Stop acting like everyone is proclaiming the guy as the next Brady.

The one thing that I stand by is my belief in the current FO & the more than decent chance that they will turn this team into a winner over the long term.
