I expect him too as well but I don't think you would bank on it and release CC.

no but when you add the draft pick and toler into the mix plus dunbar you can see why it happened

i am thinking dunbar is stepping up even more
that is the logical route. But i feel like if fuller is healthy and productive in TC that they pretty much give him the nickel spot over dunbar.

well that escalated quickly. they must feel really confident fuller is ready to go day 1 in TC because they essentially handed him the nickel job without playing a down.

Or this may just be a long-term decision. SM may have felt he needs to cut Culliver now so he would eat the left over money this year instead of keeping him this year and having to pay extra next year if he is cut then.

Probably. But he wasn't even really lighting it up before his injury and once injured, his value is greatly diminished . So you never know.

This. Cully wasn't very good last year before the injury. Certainly not worth his salary and coming off a second ACL tear. If he was playing at an elite level, he wouldn't have been cut. Combination of his play before the injury, the injury itself and his huge cap number.

I have no problem bringing him in at a much lower salary to see if he can improve his play. Doubtful that it will happen.

Yep. He was my favorite signing last off season but I was really disappointed in his play before the injury.

I think Culliver is a perfect example of free agent signings. When a free agent becomes available and people want them, the team they are best suited to help is the team they are leaving. They know the system and 99% of the time that is the system they fit best. #SYSTEMmatters

It isn't very often elite players hit the market. Culliver was never thought of as elite and was never All-Pro. He got paid like a top five corner though which is what happens when teams act in desperation. I do believe Norman is different. He was elite last season, All-Pro, so there is hope because he is coming into a system that utilizes his talents (as long as we use him correctly). Still, there should be doubt but I don't mind it as much because he was elite and got, paid like it.

you overpay for free agents . cully garcon , maybe even norman . that is why you limit FA signings and build mostly for the draft

Exactly...build through the draft, resign your own that deserve contracts, fill the holes with low priced free agents, and occasionally take a shot at an All-Pro if they become available on e market.

That means we take a $5M dead cap hit in 2017. I'm wondering if that means we're making room to sign someone soon. Reed? Cuz?

Why would we take a 5m cap hit in 2017?

It says we saved 8 mil against the cap because his 8 mil salary is no longer guaranteed. He was going to count as 9.25 mil against the cap and the Twitter statement still counts the 1.25 mil proration of his signing bonus. That being said, we still have to account for the 2.5 mil for 2017 and 2018. I think we will just get rid of that this season in accounting.

3,750 dead cap in 2016 only

Chris Culliver

Is that chart correct? It appears to be based on a pre-June 1 release. A post-June 1 cut, on the other hand, means that the current year's pro-rate is taken into account and the remaining years unamortized signing bonus pro-rate accelerates the next League Year. The chart shows that Cully's cap number is $9.25M this year. By subtracting his $1.25M pro-rate for 2016, we clear $8M this year. However, there's the issue of the remaining pro-rates, which I goofed my basic math on. It's $1.25M x 2, which is $2.5M not $5M.

I believe you are correct, sir. Somehow, my basic math skills failed me. With a post-June 1 designation, we have to account for $1.25M x 2, which is $2.5M.

His cap number this year was $9.25 million

Culliver had a total signing bonus of $5 million.

So 1.25 per year. Leaving $3.75 to account for.

His base salary this year of $8 would have been guaranteed except he got suspended thus voiding the guarantee.

So we are taking a $1.25 hit this year, and a $2.5 hit next year.

Saves us $8 million against the cap this year,

As his base in 2017 and 2018 was not guaranteed... reality is he had a two year guaranteed salary of $16 million... of which we paid $8 million total in real money.
