Rangers' Nomar Mazara: Blasts second homer Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Nomar Mazara went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk Sunday at the White Sox.

Mazara's second blast of the season gave the Texas Rangers a lead in the first inning, but that ended up being the only run the team would score in a losing effort. After the rookie got off to a blazing start, he's collected only four hits over his last 18 at-bats, but his slash line is still an impressive .356/.404/.533.

Cant ask for the starters to do much more, the hitters are going to have to start doing their jobs. Im talking to you Prince!

Rangers' Colby Lewis: Doesn't factor into decision against White Sox on Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Lewis didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the White Sox, giving up six hits, an earned run, and four walks over six innings. He struck out three.

The veteran righty has now pitched six full frames in all four starts, and has generally been effective, surrendering no more than four earned runs in any one outing and only a single earned run in two of them. His typical control problems do continue to plague him, with Saturday's tally of four walks representing a season high. Lewis has only one decision on the season, a victory, and has posted a respectable 3.38 ERA over 24 innings with a 20:10

Rangers' Delino DeShields Jr.: Out of the lineup Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
DeShields is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.

Manager Jeff Banister will hold DeShields out for Sunday's matinee after the speedy 23-year-old had seen his batting average drop precipitously over the past five games, going 2-for-20 at the dish. DeShields will be replaced in the lineup by Ryan Rua.

4 runs in 3 games is pretty sad.

I'm not completely absolving Iapoce here, but the Rangers do seem to hit better the more consistent the lineup is.

I have decided it cant fall mostly on the hitting instructor anymore, the bats in this lineup just go too cold too often. I don't know what the issue might be, whether its approach or lack of focus or just giving away at bats. They seem to do better vs. top tier pitching too, and take too many games off vs. mediocre to below avg pitching

Deshields need to sit awhile. Rua Desmond and Maz made a good OF yesterday. Rua demo'd a gun for a arm.
Prince needs to sit too. Might do him some good to be humbled a smite.

Rua has that 3B/SS arm, it plays well in the OF too. I missed all of yesterdays game though and the highlights, maybe I can find a clip of it somewhere

Nomar Mazara and the Rangers crowded outfield

That gives you five outfielders -- Mazara, Hamilton, Choo, Ian Desmond, and Delino DeShields. From a roster construction standpoint, the mix is particularly problematic because the two center fielders, Desmond and DeShields, are both righthanded, while the corner guys who could also DH are all lefthanded hitters -- as are Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland, your current DH and 1B options. The fact that the same-handed hitters all play the same positions limits your ability to platoon, and also lessens the utility of having one of those guys on the bench.

I see Rua was mentioned in the article just not this paragraph, never mind

Hypothetically speaking, would the Rangers be better off having Rua and Gallo playing some combination of 1B and DH beginning in July than having Prince and Mitch doing the same thing for the rest of the year? I know barring major injuries to both Mitch and Prince that that would never happen this year, but I wonder if we would be better off?

Depends on how long we are in contention I guess? If by some chance we are out of it by July, Id send MM to anyone that will offer you something for him and unload Prince too if we could

I was assuming we would be in contention. With two wildcards you have to be playing some pretty bad baseball to be out of contention by then. Either way though I wonder which duo would give us the most production in the second half.

As bad as Prince and MM have been thus far, Im not sure they can stay this bad but anything is possible I guess. If that were the case I think Rua and Joey could easily be more productive

Through the late October, by my watch.

Well then, Wash......I mean Banister, won't be benching any veterans in favor of productive prospects no matter how terrible they veteran players have been. Oh well long way to go this year
