a slower pitch with more movement is much harder to hit than a faster velocity with no movement.. why do you think knuckle balls are so hard to hit iffy?

fister never had a 85 mph breaking ball...
Doug Fister » Statistics » Pitching | FanGraphs Baseball

like was stated... velocity has nothing to do with fister's success... movement and angles are what gets him swings and misses.. he NEVER has had a high k/bb ratio... try looking shit up once in a while before you babble about shit that has nothing to do with reality.

7mil for a veteran pitcher is peanuts.

ASSHOLE

Don't know who wrote that article....but he has little knowledge of the D'Backs. Corbin started 16 games (3.67 ERA) last year - so he is NOT coming back from an injury. Unless he just recently fell off a chair or something. As for signing him....I think D'Back money would be better spent on a Howie Kendricks.

Buehrle wants a contending team - not too far from his home in Missouri. I smell Royals? Cubs?
if buerhle was going to the royals.. i doubt they would have just spend money on shit bag kennedy.

Child like behavior :). Should I expect a picture of a penis like you have done before. LOL

So for anyone else that might post here that has the social and emotional maturity to discuss baseball......

I'm a little disappointed that Detroit didn't take the plunge and trade Jose Iglesias. At first it was just a wish based on what I felt was his poor attitude and propensity for injury. But after seeing his final numbers, I see no strong need to keep him. Iglesias' defensive WAR ranked him 10th in the MLB and his overall WAR put him in the center of starting SS. Weak OBP, no power, not a big SB threat. His .300 BA was based on a .333 BABIP, so there is a chance his BA could drop. I at least hope Detroit made a few inquires about what they could get for him. I know Detroit fans usual resist trading away their starting players....and with Castellanos on Iglesias's right, I'm not 100% sure trading Jose Iglesias is a good idea. But I would not be too upset if he was gone.

Not sure if you understand BABIP... but the reason why Iglesias has a high BABIP is because he gets a TON of infield hits... his swing leads to this because he naturally is out of the box and running in one motion... leading to a higher BABIP... Nothing is going to change this for the foreseeable future. The only thing that will drop it is loss of speed.. which he isn't going to lose any time in the next few seasons. Iglesias's high BABIP isn't a product of luck like many players... it is a product of his swing leading him out of the box and speed. The more you know...

Also... can you explain how his OBP is "weak" his OBP was .349 and .347 the last 2 years... .347 in 2015 was the same as Jose Altuve...

I love how iffy starts conversations with bullshit comments... its actually productive. Thanks Iffy. This board would be boring without you making troll comments that lead to discussions among actual tigers fans.

Mark Buerhles high school coach works in the garden center at the Ft Myers Home Depot.

Nice guy. He'll talk your ear off though.

i have to give it to iffy... he is really good at making comments with no actual backing in fact... then changing subject the second it gets proven he is blowing out his ass.

Regardless - his velocity is still down over the last two years. (Unless someone wants to argue that it is harder to hit a 78 mph breaking ball than an 85 mph breaking ball)

this is my favorite recent iffy post... lol.. yes iffy... it is harder to hit a 78 mph breaking ball than a 85 mph breaking ball... if the 78 mph breaking ball has more break. When throwing a breaking ball.. the most important thing is how much it changes in level from start to finish... not velocity... spin rate is more important than velocity on a breaking ball. The more the ball spins the more it will drop. A 78 mph breaking pitch that is spinning at 3000 rpm is going to be waaaaaaay harder to hit than a 85 mph breaking ball that is spinning at 2000 rpm.

even better... a knuckle ball is thrown at a very slow speed... with almost no spin... and its hard as hell to hit if it has movement on it. the faster a knuckleball is thrown.. the straighter it will be and easier it will be to hit.

Buerhle would be a nice add - on paper - for Detroit, but with Norris, Boyd, and Fulmer pushing for rotation spots- I'm not sure I'd spend the money on Buerhle. (Unless they are going to throw Pelfrey's $16mil in the toilet.)

Eric Roof, former Tiger farmhand (and Whitecap), is one of the new coaches at Eastern Michigan University. I think Eric's older brother is a coach in the Tiger organization.

EMU needs to develop some big leaguers. I think Matt Shoemaker (LAA) is the only EMU alumnus in the majors.

No comment on your idiotic statement about pitch velocity?

He definitely would.

Id like him to be around for mentoring Norris if nothing else. Consistent as they come and as good a defender from his position as there is.

But I'd assume he'd want multi years. Which I don't see either at this point.

I never thought of Fister as anymore than a #3. With low velocity like that you're dependant on pinpoint accuracy and deception. Can't keep that up for too long.

Not knocking the guy, too much, but there's plenty of good reason why Seattle and Detroit both sold when they could. Even if it didn't work long term for either club. Fister wouldn't have either.

(My opinion of Fister is not welcomed often, anywhere. But it's been the same for years.)

I have no idea if Fister will be able to get his control back... but guys like him tend to age well. Not saying he will be a #3 starter again either.. but I would certainly take him over Pelfrey.

Tough call for me on Pelfry Vs Dougie. I want to think Doug would be better over the course of two years, but I'm not sure.

Not that I faith in Pelfry being anything other than what he's been. I'm just not confident Doug will ever be close to what he was.

My biggest concern with Fister is health. After he left Detroit he seemed to be on the DL quite often.
