^ In hindsight a couple of those predictions may have seemed reasonable, but taken in the context of the whole dialogue surround the Chiefs and Broncos this past off season they are actually a whole heap of wishful thinking. A couple stabs in the dark came true: the O-line struggled, and Manning looked bad. But when you look at a team and essentially predict every little thing about it will go wrong this year, you're bound to hit on something. It's less a prediction and more a guess: throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.

Also, in the context of Matt V's other "work" this piece the motivation behind this becomes more evident. Matt V is a Broncos hater as much as he is a Chiefs fan. It's hard to blame him: the Broncos have been bitch-slapping the Chiefs around the AFC West for years now. Look at the other piece CD just mentioned. The day after the AFCCG a Chiefs fan writes something about the Broncos. Not surprising, given the Chiefs and Broncos are rivals and both made the playoffs. But the tone is saturated with hatred for the better team.

Combine all of this with the pure venom spewed on sights like Arrowhead Addict and Arrowhead Pride and I just find all of this a bit of a guilty pleasure. I want the Broncos to win this Super Bowl because I am a Broncos fan and love my team. A nice bi-product is that a Broncos Super Bowl win would result in one of the most miserable off seasons in recent history for Chiefs fans.

So i finally bothered to read this and to be honest its not as bad as I expected. Looking back you can say 'the broncos are in the Super Bowl so that was a terrible prediction' and to a certain extent that is true but it isn't soooooo bad.
First off the chiefs made the playoffs so his thoughts on them being better is reasonable based on results. The AFC west was a close call to the end.
Now his arguments for why we will struggle. Bad O-Line, aging manning, our front in the 3-4(aka no nose/pot roast)...All of these were things I was worried about before the year and to be fair our O-Line has struggled and manning has had a terrible (possibly worst) statistical year. The good news is our D was better than most people thought. I know before the season a lot of you guys and myself both thought they could be great.
Really my only big problem is how he cherry picks with statistics like his hating on Talib and TJ Ward or suffering with the 3-4.
Another thing that cracks me up about it though is... " In a division with Jamaal Charles and Melvin Gordon, Denver could be exposed in the run game. With a bad run defense comes an impacted pass defense, with the linebackers having to cheat up." Yeah those two really tore up the league this year. I had very low expectations for Gordon coming into the season anyways

I guess to me it is more I have read this guys stuff for quite a while now and so everything I view in his articles is based on the overall picture of his tone whenever he talks about the Broncos. I mean every article about the Broncos has been they made a bad move here or this will lead to their failure. Yes everything he said in there were things that many of us voiced at different times. At the same time he completely decided to skip over any reason that there should be optimism in Denver such as Wade Phillips coming to town and his history of a defense improving in his first year. He hinted at it but didn't really do much to drive it home of the 3-4 was going to be great for Ware and Von to create one of the best pass rushes in the NFL along with a great secondary.

He also talked about the injured players coming back for the Chiefs but forgot to mention guys like Trevathan coming back for us and how he was truly the emotional leader of our 2013 defense that made it to the Super Bowl. I would also say letting Knighton walk and seeing that he struggled to even sign a contract with a team should show that while he did well in Del Rio's system he wasn't viewed much as a guy that could thrive in any system.

Again this is more based on his full body of work. @iknowftbll and I just enjoy getting this guy a bit riled up. He is young in his writing career and I am sure will slowly figure out that you can't take this work too serious and you have to laugh off any criticism. I mean even the greatest writings of all time are criticized all over the place. Heck the #1 selling book for years in the Bible is probably the most criticized book of all time. It comes with the territory of putting your writing out there just like we do with writing on this message board of people are not always going to like what we have to say and you can either lose it or just laugh it off and move on. Like I said I do think the kid will figure it out eventually.

You can tell which writers are seasoned and which ones are still feeling their way through. Some figure it out and learn to balance the negativity and some let their emotions dictate their columns. The latter normally don`t last long. :)

Bulletin board material all season long. :)

Yup it has been fun to watch this team prove so many wrong every single week. I mean we have been underdogs more in this one year than probably the last 3 combined yet we have won every one of those games. It is awesome listening to these analyst this week try and figure out how in the world the Broncos won this past weekend as so many were thinking the game would be a laugher. Funny thing is many of those same guys are doing it again this week saying the Panthers roll over the Broncos.

They are what is called - Winners -these Broncos!

They say - steel sharpens steel. The Broncos experience and triumphs in high pressure situations - has got to give them confidence - and makes the Broncos the team no one wants to play. They hang with you and beat you at the end. Get used to it fans. :)

Not disappointed by this at all. I think we play the role of underdog pretty well. As far as Matt V I just thought it would be fun to play devils advocate for him. Now in every way I stood up for him I also saw him being super biased and nitpicking details. I agree with you about all of it but it doesn't piss me off or anything because I'm aware of his bias. To me it is a lot like looking at the artwork of a preschooler, they are all so proud of their work because they don't know any better. All we can do is sit back and enjoy the fact that we are fortunate enough to have a game coming up still.

I tend to not be very good at appreciating these moments when they come so I'm trying. I also enjoy numbers so i like to think about it this way. Out of 32 teams, 2 are still standing, that means at the beginning of each year (ceteris paribus) each team has a 6% chance of being where we are...impressive. That translates to each team should have a statistical average of making the Super Bowl every 17 years or so. Lets enjoy this one here

The Broncos so far will have now been a part of 8 of the 50 Super Bowls that will have been played. That means we have been in 16% of all the games. I would say our team is doing pretty darn good. Since our first Super Bowl appearance we have now been in a Super Bowl on average every 5 years.

That is 5 times better than the statistical mean for 32 teams which is 1.6 Super Bowl Trips per 50 Super Bowls.

The only thing I'm 5 times better than average at - is loving the ladies. ;)

But the question I have - is do they reciprocate??
