I remember that. Having Ellis on the team may have delayed Curry's growth at the time. So hard to take stats into context of the argument.
Yep I think it was stunting his growth because look what happened as soon as he had room to operate. I'm not sure why Monta had a problem with it other than his ego. I mean it only took a few seasons after his trade before they started to win & eventually became champs. And in that time frame he's been on what, 3 different teams?

oh millions of different ways to frame it--- you could frame it as Ellis was drawing shots away from Curry- you could frame it as Ellis was garnering defensive attention with all those drives making it easier for Curry, etc. etc.....

In my mind Kyrie had the harder degree of difficulty coming in at 19 years old- with the pressure that comes with replacing LeBron JAmes- and being the SOLE focus of the defense--- until Dion came along who was not exactly mr efficiency or mr. happy in regards to working with Kyrie and i think almost UPPED the degree of difficulty....

i mean mecca makes a valid point that some of these things are very hard to capture in stats- which is one of the reasons for the stats revolution that has done a better job of quantifying these things- at some point you just gotta compare apples to apples.

yah you are right.

Westbrook is THIRD IN THE ENTIRE NBA in assists with 9.7 a game.....guy just never passes....lol...last year he was 4th in the NBA in assists per game. 9th in the NBA the year before that.......its just insane.....a guy is top 5 in the NBA in assists 2 years in a row- and top ten for 3 years in a row- but doesnt pass.....

BRILLIANT..lol....

geezus some people are dumb.
Well, we definitely will see soon, won't we? And what happened, now you're on the OKC bandwagon because the Warriors already put your boys in Cleveland to shame? So RW is your last chance? LOL

No- you just said a guy doesnt pass- that is currently 3rd in the NBA in assists- the same guy that was 4th in the NBA in assists last year

Do you realize how STUPID you are? I mean- did it even cross your mind that averaging practiacally 10 assists per game is REALLY FREAKING GOOD! in FACT ELITE- and makes him among the most prolific players in the ENTIRE NBA at making plays for his teammates?

AND HERE COOOOOOOOOOOMES the deflection....seriously- why anyone pays attention to the least informed person here- LAD- is beyond me- in the span of two pages she has been so patently wrong and made comments so stupid- that its really beyond belief

in the words of the principal in Billy Madison- "I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul".

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion even if I think it's stupid just as you think mine is. But, we'll see when they play. Will you be the debbie downer here again like when they played the Spurs?

Just because they don't run their offense as GSW & Sas does in terms of ball movement doesn't mean they don't have other quality players outside of KD & Westbrook.

Ibaka, Kanters, Waiters, Adams, Morrow, & Payne are all players I would take on my team any day.

That's surprising. But warriors are deeper regardless and have the better starting 5

Never said otherwise. Just was saying that it is false that OKC only have 2 quality players which is the point the other poster attempted to make.

Ok, fine, he's averaging 9 assists-probably all going to KD, right? LOL Like I said, we'll see what happens when they play.

And furthermore, what's stupid is you trying to compare Kyrie's NBA stats to another player that wasn't even in the league yet (Curry). Or suggesting that we compare Kyrie's prior seasons stats to Curry's current stats. So this post is nothing more than you trying to save face from that idioitc showing that you just wouldn't give up on.

You're not understanding. I never said they're not good role players. What I said is KD & RW tend to play 2 on 5 often not including those other guys. In some cases they win (when their opponent is a weaker team) but a lot of times that doesn't work out well. It will be interesting to see if they play iso ball or only want to play 2 on 5 against the Warriors.
And even though their role players are good the Warriors role players are better imo.

I think assists is flawed stat it's still a good stat though. Won't work for someone like steph curry

I agree. For example if RW is only passing to KD he's likely to get more assists vs the other guys on the team. And because RW & KD tend to rely on each other heavily I think that scenario is plausible.

I agree that GSW role players are better. Usually at the end of the game they'll play Iso ball but they play much more team ball during the game now with Brooks gone. This is also the best supporting cast KD & RW ever had

It says something when Mecca's getting tired of your ass.

Seriously, outside of the Cavs fandom, I'm probably the only poster on here that genuinely likes Wiggy.

But, sometimes he can be exasperating....lol

I honestly thought that Brooks was holding them back because too many times he was allowing RW & KD to do their own thing out there without direction. We'll see if they go farther without him.

Folks need to watch out for Payne.

I'm expecting him to take a CJ Mccollum type leap next Season.

This comment by KD sums it up pretty good in terms of them not being like SAS or GSW in style of play.

"Look, we're not the San Antonio Spurs," Durant said. "We're not going to make 30 passes a possession. We're not that. Of course, people want us to be that, and that's great basketball, don't get me wrong. But we've got guys that can score. We've got two guys on this team that can get a bucket. And there are going to be times when we've got to ISO and there's going to be times when we have to be aggressive and look for our shot. But basketball is simple when you've got a guy that can get to the paint. That's what San Antonio wants to do.

"We've got multiple guys that can do that -- myself, Russ, Dion [Waiters], Cameron Payne -- guys who can get to the paint and kick out or dump down for a layup," he said. "That's ultimately what you want -- get the defense off balance, drive, kick, make the right play. Simple basketball. But we just don't make five or six passes before we do it sometimes, and that's not a knock against us, I don't think. When you've got dynamic guys that can play and do multiple things on the floor, I think it's to your advantage."

The metrics bear out what Durant is saying. In terms of assists per 100 possessions, the Warriors are first (20.5) and the Spurs are tied for second (with Atlanta at 19.2). The Thunder are 15th (16.5).

Imo, not having a true 3rd option was the problem.

Ibaka is good. But, he tends to disappear.

I was very uneasy about them paying Kanter that much to come off the bench.

But, it makes alot of sense when you realize that they don't need the one thing he provides in the starting unit.

Scoring.

He can be that 3rd guy.

It makes Ibaka's job much easier when all he has to concentrate on is defense.
