From the sound of it they gave him quite a bit of power. It is how they got him to consider the job compared to going to the 49ers. Going to be interesting to see if they give him the time and actual ability to do what he needs to do to bring this team out of the crap that they have put out for years.

Don't understand the Hue Jackson appeal at all. The Raiders fiasco where he contributed to setting that franchise back 5 years should have scared off owners for a little longer.

From what I read, it sounded like he wanted more control over player personnel decisions, and some of the other teams that were interviewing him (Giants, SF) do not allow the coach that much control.

Not sure how relatively new coaches get that concession, but...good move for him, a good hire for Cleveland.

This most likely means that Mike Smith will be going to the Giants

I don't understand how you give personnel control to Jackson after the part he played in the Carson Palmer to the Raider's fiasco. One of the worst moves in the entire NFL in the last decade.

I think he actually did a pretty good job in OAK, but was way too head strong to be a brand new HC. IMO OAK set themselves back by firing him after 1 season.

He gave up a 1st and 2nd round draft pick for a QB that wasn't even playing in the NFL at the time and who in the couple of years previous to that had looked like complete crap as he needed Tommy John's and he refused to get it done.

A 1st and a 2nd rounder on any team is a tough price to pay for a talented teams. But to give up that much in draft picks when you have zero in the way of young talent on the roster is just idiotic and that was the position the Raiders were in at the time.

The owner will fire him in two seasons, that owner is way to much involved and needs to let these actual football employee do what they know to do, no more gambles on character issue players..

So.....

The 27th & 53rd pick (the equivalent of the 15th pick) for a QB who should win the MVP this year to a team who hadn't had a good QB in 10 years...

...is a BAD trade? :noidea:

I can't believe I'm defending Hue Jackson on something. I wanted him as the Niners' coach like I want a punch in the face.

Struggling to see why everyone thinks Hue is a good coach.

He's an MVP candidate with another team entirely. No way Palmer is even sniffing the MVP discussion if he's still with Oakland.

It was a 17th overall and a 37th overall. That gets you into the top 10. And on top of that Oakland was paying Carson premium NFL dollars for those couple of years which is a big deal when you are one of the poorest teams in the league.

And the only reason Palmer is on pace to be an MVP candidate is because he found that same fountain of youth when healing from ACL surgery that Manning had found when healing from neck surgery. The double benefit for Palmer is that it helped improve his arm ligament as well.

When they made that trade, Carson sucked. People forget that. He looked like crap his last couple of years in Cinci as he just didnt' have the same arm after the elbow problems. He was so bad that a rookie Andy Dalton was a SIGNIFICANT upgrade.
