I have no problem saying that the Seahawks are a better team than the Vikes but on that field yesterday, they were quite equal.
Equal does not mean better. IMO if a team wins, then they are the better team, that day.

And a similar play with Big Ben in the SB.
Both times 'a helmet' scored the TD, not the football.

Pittsburgh IS the luckiest team in NFL History. Good teams create more situations for good things to happen.

by the way, why do you run off tackle to the left in that situation? Dont you run up the middle or right with a right legged kicker. Kicker should have made it, but that is the, for a lack of a better term, the hardest spot to kick a short FG for a right legged kicker

Their last 2 Super Bowl wins certainly qualify as lucky

*but*

They've also lost to Tim Tebow on an illegal play and they've had quite a few playoff runs tanked due to injuries to Big Ben and others.

I still think the NY Giants are the luckiest. Last 3 Super Bowl wins were super lucky.

Sherman had a hell of a game too. He was in on a lot of tackles, and quite a few were right at the line of scrimmage.
Earl had a heck of a game as well and saved a long pass play that without him was likely 6 points.

Still, Bennett was in a different zone entirely. He was everywhere on almost every play. No one else for Seattle had as much impact on the outcome of that game IMO. He gets the MVP of the game.

What was illegal about that play? Legit question; I recall the play and laughing my ass off about Tim Tebow knocking the Steelers out of the playoffs, but I don't recall there seeming anything wrong with the play.

Its a mostly legal play. Illegal might be a bit harsh but IIRC the Steelers were hit pretty hard with injuries that game so I'll lean back towards that point. Big Ben gets injured just about every year.

When a game is decided by one play....esp a botched one where a team loses that should have won, they are not the better team. That's my opinion; you're free to yours.

So, to clarify your statement, NOT my statement. Seattle botched the last play of the SB, allowing NE to win.
Had RW converted that TD pass, Sea wins-NE losses.
Had Walsh made the FG Minny wins-Sea losses.
Meaning, Seattle was the better team in SB49? Is that correct, or am I spinning your words?

Were the Patriots the better team against the Ravens in 2012?

Do the Vikings look at themselves as unlucky or do they think they just failed to execute?

Probably both.

I highly doubt that. Especially when they pick it apart on tape over and over and recognize every little thing they could have differently.

They will definitely see the missed opportunities and bad execution. But you know in the heads of those players they are thinking that. "Fuck man. That's some shit luck how our kicker missed from that close." I know that would at least run through my thoughts.

Probably both.

Were the Colts unlucky that Vanderjagt had a penchant for missing game winning field goals? Were the Chargers unlucky when Nate Kaeding had the same problem? Were the Bills unlucky when they missed a game winning field goal against the Giants?

To me, a kicker missing a field goal is not luck. It is a failure to execute.

Luck, as far it goes, would be more a ref missing a call like what happened late in the Super Bowl last year when the Patriot corner tripped Jermaine Kearse on a crossing route and it wasn't called. Luck is a team fumbling 3 times and losing all 3 like the Packers did against the Giants in 2011, although the fumbles themselves were a failure to execute.

It's about execution for sure. The kicker isn't going to say he's unlucky. It would just be a thought that runs through his teammates' heads. All the work they put in to try and win the game, only to lose on a bad kick. There's two sides to everything, and I try to see both sides in anything. Helps you stay open minded.
