I sure hope so. An average QB would be just fine with the type of defense I think Zimmer is capable of putting together long term.

You are too harsh on Teddy. If AP isn't running well and with our god awful o line protecting him it's not like he's working with gold here.

He's dominated the bad defenses he's played(Detroit twice and SD) and had good an bad moments against the better Ds(Denver, KC and Chicago). He makes plays in good spots but makes a few dumb throws as well. Some of it is mind boggling play calling to start though.

San Fran was a tragedy from the top down. Everyone should be ashamed with that game.

We are 5-2 and our two losses were a team trainwreck and final drive to a 7-0 team

As of right now on that list, Andy Dalton, Derek Carr, and Cam Newton are the best players off that list.

How in the world is Cam Newton one of the top 3 based on point in time? Because his team is 7-0?

He has a 78 passer rating. His defense has been excellent but I just don't see how a 5th year guy who has always been the same somehow become a top tier guy just because the team got really really good and more than a little lucky.

Well Cam is now 11-0. Is he the best QB of the young bloods?

To me it is hard to compare.
As a pure passer - I would give the nod to Dalton, although Cam throws more long balls.
If you add in his running ability I give it to Cam. I think Cam is also the best at reading defenses and getting his team into position to have a successful play. He has improved greatly over the course of the year.

The bottom line is, all other things being equal, if you asked the the D Coordinators out there who they would rather face, I think the majority would say Dalton. Cam is just difficult to defend.

Cam is clearly the most dynamic player of the group.

Is he the best QB in a traditional sense? No. He's probably not even in the top 3 or 4 because his passing ability is still very raw and has not developed as much as I think anyone would like.

The real key is going to be in 3-4 years when he can't always be the runner he is now and has to throw it and rely on his ability as a passer to stay at the top of the NFL. Will he be able to do that? Time will tell.

Luck....then the rest.

Luck wasn't the best even when it was between Luck, Wilson and RG3. He's had some nice passing yardage and last year he threw a bunch of TDs. That's it. He still throws a ton of picks and his QB rating and completion percent is very low. I think he's going to great things eventually, but right now the Luck love train is derailed.

So Russell Wilson was downgraded in the past because of his "running game" (which he is a greater % of than any other QB in the league) and defense, but now Cam Newton is the best young QB?

I'd still take Luck today, then Cam, Dalton, Wilson... I'd have to think about the order for those 3.

Interesting to see all the Luck love still.

At some point all that potential needs to develop into something real. He regressed pretty badly this year. Remains to be seen how he bounces back.

While I definitely wouldn't put him at the top anymore he still has to be top-3 in my opinion. The kid has all the talent in the world and had one of the better QB seasons of the year just this past year where he played like a top-5 QB. Now while yes he has made a ton of stupid decisions I would say you have to look at the full picture around him though. His OL is just down right terrible, the play calls were much different for him compared to their back up. They wanted to go deep almost every play and well with that OL it just was not going to work. Injuries obviously have to be factored in too of we just don't know how much he has been hurting most of the year. Then to speak to the internal problems between coaches and FO people. I'm at least willing to give him a pass on this season and see how he bounces back before I move him too far down my list.

Those are all fair and reasonable points. FTR, I think there is still an argument for him being the best young QB. But the argument is much tougher right now.

But it seems that folks aren't even trying to justify their argument. It's purely faith based for most of them.

I want to see Dalton step up when it matters before I rate him as the best young QB. Carr and Winston seem to be the biggest risers at the moment. Pretty far from the best for either of them so far though.

Yeah I agree. To me to be the best I need to see it in the playoffs much more than in the Regular Season. So to me that takes Dalton out of the top spot. Now I will say he looks like a different QB this year for the most part so I do think he stands a chance to really put some of that past history behind him. Same with Cam on this in need to see a bit more post season wise.

I would throw in it really is hard to judge the staying power of all these guys. I'm betting most had Kaepernick in their top-5 after he helped the 49ers get to the Super Bowl. This is why I am tempering myself towards what I am seeing in my team's new QB in he has done great and I am getting excited to see him moving forward but it wouldn't surprise me to see him come crashing back down either.

Also some weird coincidences between Kap and Os in both got their first start against the Bears where they both put up very similar numbers. Both came in with 7 games left in the season. Both beat the Patriots in their first year starting. I'm just hoping Osweiler finishes off the season a little better with actually winning the Super Bowl instead of just making it.

Yeah. If he doesn't completely fold again in the playoffs I will change my perspective on him.

Way too early to judge BO. Looked pretty good Sunday but obviously needs to show more.

I'm much more interested by the Dalton love. He's having his best season for sure, but we're still talking about a guy with 0 career playoff wins and quite a few terrible individual performances on the way to earning those 0 wins. Again, it sorta hits me sideways that the Wilson detractors cited the quality of his team as a mark against him in discussions like this, yet now Cam Newton and Andy Dalton seem to have leapfrogged RW in the eyes of many. I guess at least in the case of Dalton, there are actually some numbers you can use to make the argument at least for 2016. That gap sure has closed these last couple weeks though.

although Cam throws more long balls.
If you add in his running ability I give it to Cam.

Substitute Wee One for Cam....

The Giant in Denver just beat the Patriots.

The backup in Washington (Cousins) has looked good too.

I think we need more from the body of work.

The only one who has won anything of note is the Wee One.

And I absolutely fucking hate to say that.
