OMG! You got me. I will now go and sulk for the rest of the day, contemplating the internal clock of a special teams player and his ability to judge the difference between 7 and 10 seconds while running for his life with chaos all around him.

What if his "internal clock" told him the ten seconds was up? So he should take a knee thinking time had or was about to expire? The previous week we saw a team spike with no time on the clock and another that spiked on fourth down. So let's trust the gut instinct of a kid who has about 100 gallons of adrenaline pumping through his veins where literally the only chance they had to win just happened and couldn't be given to him in a better situation. But yes from the snap of the ball he should have been counting "one Mississippi, two Mississippi" just incase the .2% chance thing of happening happened.

While different scenarios, we tell these kids ALL THE TIME to roll out and only pass if someone is open and throw away if not to save time for an FG.
We tell kids all the time to run for the first down and beyond but go down in time to save time for a winning FG if they don't see a clear path to the goal line.

being able to decipher 70% of the clock that's left isn't the monumental task you're making it out to be. I think you know it.

BTW, except for one poster, EVERYONE ELSE was saying in this thread that he KNEW he had enough time to get in the end zone and that time wasn't a factor.

He also had a gigantic screen in front of him that he can see how much time on the clock and no one was coming from behind, so he had one person to worry about and if he was tackled a yard short there would have been enough time to kick the FG

IDK, I think that little giants play might at least give it a run for it's money. Down 3 points, in field goal range, and like 30 yards away from the end zone MSU went for a fake. That's pretty darn ballsy and pretty darn shocking. One was shocking because you didn't think it could happen, the other is shocking because you can't believe they called, and successfully ran, that play.
