a lot of people wanted the 3 x pro bowler gone and advocated the murphy would be "good enough"

i am starting to think the reason kerrigan is struggling is he doesnt have a guy on the other side who can beat the LT one on one like Rak could hence the offense can focus on kerrigan

gallette may have been able to do that had he not hurt himself but this discussion was going on long before anyone knew who gallette was

i felt like kerrigan would be hurt by his departure but then again can you pay rak 7 mil to get kerrigan double digit sacks and impact plays ?

They aren't playing the same defense. They are also not getting what they thought they would get from the D line which was supposed to make Kerrigan's job easier. I am trusting in SM at LB, at QB, at whatever position.

We are currently paying $9 million for a WR who has taken exactly 13 snaps, and $6.7 million for a QB who has taken zero snaps. So if $7 million would have allowed our defense to actually get an extra 5-7 sacks on the season thus far it would have been a bargain.

I never got the hate for Rak just because he wasn't great and fans were expecting great. But anyone believing Murphy and Smith could be fine replacements were crazy. I know he's a rookie but where the Hell has Preston Smith gone? I haven't heard his name called in weeks.

What's to miss about a guy that was on IR more than on the field over the last 3 years?

Kerrigan is having an off year, but it's kinda hard to rack up sacks when teams are running at will against you. He isn't seeing very many must pass situations which most sack leaders thrive on.

The follow-up to this has to include how well Orakpo is doing with the Titans. He doesn't appear to have many sacks & their defense does not appear to be doing that well. I have asked a handful of Titans fans about him & thus far nobody is really impressed. However - I can't really give a grade on him since I don't follow that team or him at this time.

With these evaluations you always have to consider the current player - not his reputation or what he did 2-3 years ago. Players can change dramatically based on injury and other factors.

True. However - in this case you should be very happy that the Skins have someone like SM. He has already shown that he won't hesitate to get rid of dead weight or anyone who is not performing to their contract. It is very possible that some of these folks (even Jackson) will not be around as part of the rebuild process. Give it time.

I guess that I am a little confused by these statements. Kerrigan has done very well at times (e.g. end of last season) when Orakpo was on IR. So you would think that this goes well beyond Orakpo's absence. You also have to remember that Kerrigan has had some injury issues this season. Make no mistake - the Redskins can always use more pass rush help (& I am sure that they will obtain more help in this area in the offseason as well as attempt to use Galette next season if possible).

What would Rak add to this present team? very little if anything at all. And RK played w/o him on the field before and he was fine. I don't think people hated Rak, at least I didn't. I just didn't think was close to being the player pro-Rak Skins fans thought he was,

Yet he's clearly more talented than Murphy. I can't imagine the best thing for gruden keeping his job is to play less talented players because they're more mature.

I think Skinsdads point was, NO one really worries about Murphy/Smith thus teams are still hedging protection in Kerrigans direction. While Rak might not be racking up the sack numbers, I think its safe to say no one is going to simply ignore him coming off the edge.

True & sure if he would play for $1-2 million they should have considered bringing him back. However - at his current contract - no way. This is just another area where everyone needs to sit tight - I have no doubt that the Redskins defense will be pretty formidable in a few years once SM & company work their magic.

Considering the way that the new cap works, I think people stress entirely too much on what a guy gets paid or "What he is worth" in the fans eye. If paying him $7 million meant we couldnt sign or retain another key player, I would agree with this logic. But the reality of the new CBA is, unless you need to sign 3 franchise QBs in one off season, its all monopoly money at this rate. So unless you are one who just gets pissed over how much these guys make, I dont think any one on these boards, or even in the team facilities overly stresses what a guy makes any more. Because I will state again, If Rak had gotten 2 sacks for us this season, and Kerrigan got another 3-4 due to the presence of Rak, would it in fact have been worth more to the team than Jackson who has taken 13 snaps, or Griffin who has taken 0 snaps, and yet combined they will cost $15 million against the cap this year??
