I would be more worried about a lack of players that can play defense. Honestly I do not think there is one above average one-on-one defender on the entire Heat team.

I think just about 99% of the league would consider Deng an above average one on one defender. He is one of the best defensive SF in the league.

glue factory.

Whiteside alters the game by his presence alone (if he can stay away from stupid fouls) which should make the team overall defense that much better.

Bosh and Deng and decent defenders on their own.
Most PG's are not great defenders and Wade is lazy most of the time.

I would bet at some point Winslow grows into a very solid defender but highly doubtful he makes an impact his rookie year- and after that it gets very shaky. Bosh plays some solid team defense and Whiteside can guard the rim but cant guard an opposing center with any kind of moves on the block to save his life.

Dragic and Wade make up perhaps the worst back court defense in the NBA.

Worse than crippled Kyrie and JR?

I do agree, that I'm not expecting much out of Winslow this season.

A defensive minded center can do wonders for a teams defense. It's just been a few pre-season games, but so far, Hibbert has looked motivated and active when he's been in the games and there's a noticeable difference in the Lakers defense. They aren't going to be leading the league in defense any time soon, but it looks like they will be better defensively than they have in a few years.

If Whiteside stays strong defensively, it will make up for a lot of the Heats defensive liabilities. With what they have on offense, an average defense should be enough to take the Heat pretty far.

Truth of the matter is you don't necessarily need a lot of great individual defenders if you play good defense as a team and have someone to protect the paint. There's not many teams with a lot of good individual defenders

I agree that Whiteside is a very good rim defender and is legitemately great at coming off his guy and getting blocks. That is valuable- especially against teams with big men that Whiteside can play off of a little bit.

Whiteside has a long way to go though before he can guard a center with any kind of moves in the post. No reason to think he wont improve at it though.

It is really difficult to guard NBA players one-on-one. These guys are just too skilled offensively. Paint protection and solid team defensive principles get it done. Whiteside is definitely a solid rim protector.

Wiggy is talking like the Cavs have all these great individual defenders.

ROSE'S STATUS FOR OPENER IN DOUBT
Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said Derrick Rose "most likely" will not play in the preseason and his status for the team's season opener is in doubt. Rose had surgery to repair a fractured orbital bone on Sept. 30.

This one sentence is why Tristan does not deserve the max: Thompson is really good at one thing: offensive rebounding.

FOR THE RECORD I HAVE NEVER DOUBTED FOR ONE MINUTE THAT ROSE WOULD BE READY TO MISS THE OPENER

And for the record - can some one who I have blocked explain to Handicapped that I did not try to have any one removed for banned from the politics room. I was very busy trying not get banned myself. I backed off because in the past I have learned from personal experiences that they will just ban you without warning you. Besides that the room isn't worth the trouble any way.
