I don't know, he actually raises some very good questions as to why they don't have a QB in place after Mariota left....
Edsall will fix the Oregon QB situation next season after they get rid of Helfrich.

The Fuskies haven't even been close for 12 years. It hasn't even been close. I do understand the hatred though, kind of like my hatred for a Peyton Manning led Denver Broc-a-hos.
Raida, your boys came up on the short end of the stick, we've all been there in the last several years. It was an epic ride (few teams put than many consistent winning seasons together), and the Ducks will be back sooner than later. Don't let the jabs get to you. As tough as it is to take, don't let the bashing get to you.:thumb:

Right on. Yeah, I was actually thinking about that last night. It's been a very long time since we've had more than two losses in a season. It has been a good run and a down year was definitely bound to come.

I'll tell you, I was shocked when one of the touted young guns wasn't trotted out to take thier lumps this season, kind of like what Browning is doing with Washington this year. To think that the coaching staff felt the need to bring in Vernon Adams says it all and we have seen why with the product that Lockie and Alie leave on the field. The the biggest question mark resides in the young former 4*'s Mahalak and Jonson and why they haven't even sniffed the field this season. With Jonson now out for the year, there would have to be a point where Mahalak would be trotted out in the name of the future. Wouldn't you think?

You guys have built a program that is greater than any single season. The Huskies may get you guys next week. Is 12 out of 13 or 13 out of 14 in a year, much worse to boast about? And don't get me wrong I'm all about the Huskies being tough on a couple of selfish levels.

I think th Dub will be a pretty good team the next few years. They are a bit inconsistent this season though, but show flashes, especially on D. They've shown vulnerability in stopping the run. I still like our chances. :D

I'm expecting a good game. Celebrating your loss to WSU and OD's ensuing meltdown is one thing, but I (or any other husky fans) have no place starting a celebration for a win next week early. You guys will score, we just have to hope and think our D is everything it's cracked up to be and keeps oregon well in check. What should decide the game is if our steaming pile of shit we call an offense can move on the steaming pile of shit you call a defense.

Chip Kelly has assembled a team of high profile lawyers to address this in his return to CFB at USC. May go to the Supreme Court but, I heard Mariotta will get his last year of eligibility back as a Trojan.

Exactly. The Pete Carroll era ended with a 4 loss season. Down years are going to happen because there are times when you end up with a lot more young guys than usual, newer players don't always hold the same respect for the work and focus it takes to be a top team, coaching changes happen and any of a thousand other reasons. It's a big part of why we love college football and find it frustrating at the same time.

What separates the traditional powers from teams that just had a "good run" is that they come back.

My guess is that Oregon will come back and maybe as early as next year.

NO NO DONT LIKE THIS SHIT. THIS IS FUCKING UTTER BULLSHIT.

I AM SO FUCKING SICK TO MY GDAMN STOMACH RIGHT NOW.

THIS WAS EMBRASSSING.

THese are coaches who inherited a FUCKING FERRARI program. It was a WELL OILED MACHINE, and what do they do? TEHSE INCOMPETENT ASSES CRASH THE THING INTO A DITCH.

ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS PLUG AND CHUG. Replace the PIECES WITH THE 4 and 5 STAR RECRUITS WE WERWE GETTING ANNUALLY.

WHat happened?!?! WHAT THE FUCK!?!?

Here is what happened. Oregon forgot that these are 20 year old kids. Yes, they are "Ferrari" recruits, but anyone who has ever owned a car like that also knows that you can't treat a Ferrari like it's a Chevy. They are high maintenance vehicles, and when the engine isn't tuned to perfection, the tires precisely inflated, the suspension correctly balanced, and the systems meticulously maintained, well, a good Chevy can whip its ass.

I saw it in the Utah game. The Oregon players gave up and rolled over. As I said, these are kids, someone forgot that. The team motor is badly out of tune, tires under inflated. Keep in mind, they've been called Ferraris since they were 14, most of them. And when the thing breaks down, it breaks down bad. Now is the time that we discover what kind of a coach Helfrich truly is. This is where he will earn his money, or collapse in failure.

Could be. I think that will all depend on the QB position and a young guy stepping up. I think a silver lining may be in recruiting in that some of these top recruits may think they can come in and get some playing time right away. The Trojans are an example of that right now. I think with some better coaching, that team is undefeated right now. The young core of players there is scary good!

I feel your pain OD.

I've been living the nightmare for 14 years now.

I probably sound like a broken record here, but for any HC, it's all about putting the pieces together.
Some got it and some don't. Any time you're promoting a coordinator to 1st time head coach it's a crap-shoot at best. The reason is that the coordinator had a boss (his previous HC) putting ALL of the pieces together. The coordinator was only responsible for his part of the game, and even that is questionable as to what degree?
When said coordinator takes over the duties of putting ALL of the pieces together, weekly game plan, having to make in game tweaks, the ability to communicate what you're trying to do with the players (teaching), is when you get to truly evaluate them.
Sometimes they live off of the previous HC's staff, players, system for a couple years. Sometimes they catch lightning in a bottle to mask/delay the inevitable fall, Mariota, Vince Young, etc..

One only needs to look at Michigan and Florida as examples for 2015. Urban at Ohio St, Saban at Bama. They turned their teams around rather quickly. They did not inherit success, they made the success by taking what they received and putting ALL of the pieces together.

How close are Pellum and Helfrich? That's what it boils down to. I'd posted last January that Oregon's defense was showing cracks in 2014. Those cracks are now gashes.

As a head coach you have to put the program over friends. Some coaches don't want to fire their friends. They've known them for years, their families (wives & kids) are friends. Throwing a friend out on their ear is difficult to do.
Often a HC's job lives and dies by those friends.

It's like letting your unemployed friend move in and sleep on the couch until they get on their feet. You have a plan for them and a time limit (a couple months). You try to be patient, but 3-4 months down the road they still haven't found steady work, are eating all the food out of the fridge, don't pick up after themselves, basically don't contribute other than being your friend. At some point you have to give them the boot. You don't want to, you feel guilty about it, but you have to do the dirty.

Will Helfrich put his career and the program that Knight built over Pellum?

If not, things will continue to slide, IMO

Very good analogy. It is definitely a make or break time for Helf. If there is another loss in the near future, I think it would be time to put Morgan Mahalak into the lineup with thoughts towards next year. For some reason, he seems very hesitant in putting him in there. When Malahalak was recruited, all of the Duck fans heard the comparisons to Marcus Mariota in almost every story written about him. I'm not saying he will be MM 2.0, that would be almost unheard of. But nothing is quite like real game time experience in moving a player forward and seeing what you have. In reality, I think we see Vernon Adams back against the Huskies and the results of that game should define the direction the ducks SHOULD take moving forward. A resounding win would somewhat "right the ship" and the VA experiment would continue in Eugene at the expense of the foreseeable future. A shaky win may lead in the same direction but all indications would suggest moving towards the younger guy taking his "lumps". A loss would result in an overwhelming cry from the Oregon fanbase to move towards the youth movement. Personally, I've been wanting to see what Mahalak has to offer for going on two years now.

These guys look happy. Maybe it's not just a game?
I was happy for them. Came at my team's expense but those kids and their fans were on cloud 9.

Good times had by all at Autzen. Very good game. Dissapointing for our fans. But expectations are reduced to winning 4 games this season. Sooooooo...... Can't be to down.

That Nebraska Oregon series will be special. You know, the powerhouse blue blood vs the up and coming powerhouse Oregon program....

LOL.
