Don't beat yourself up homey. A lotta Skins fans did and so did all the talking heads and metric folks, Orakpo was rated the #1 OLB in 2014 by multiple outfits in fact. I didn't though because not only did I not see what pro-Orakpo folks said they saw. I knew it would very likely mean losing RK and I always thought RK was a significantly better all around player who fit more naturally and fluidly into a 34 OLB than Orakpo ever did.
Check out the load bullshit an SBnation writer came up with for BO and I gotta wonder WTF the PFF dudes were smokin when they graded out Orakpo.
1. Brian Orakpo (3-4 OLB, Washington Redskins)
Orakpo is one of the most-dynamic players coming off the edge and is poised to get a huge contract, maybe the biggest of the offseason. The former University of Texas star racked up 39.5 sacks during five seasons, playing only two games in 2012. In 2013, Orakpo graded out fourth among 3-4 outside linebackers and third against the run, per Pro Football Focus. Should Orakpo leave Washington, he will have suitors lining up for his services.
People will say he's outta the league now, yadda, yada, yadda and that's true. Plus use it to say I'm trippin and maybe I am, I dunno. IMO though Rob Jackson should've been penciled in as one of the starting OLBs in 2013 after the season he had in 2012. He made more big plays in 14 games in 2012 after Orakpo tore his pec in week 2. Than Orakpo did in his entire Redskins career.
Yeah, I have always liked Kerrigan much better. I had the mindset of keeping Orakpo because I didn't want to spend a pick on Ray, Beasley, etc...because we already had Brian on the roster and I really wanted Scherff. Orakpo has one move, the bull rush. If he's stronger than the LT he is lined up against he will get 2 to 3 sacks in that game. If not, which is most of the time, he won't sniff to quarterback.
Yep plus add the fact that they added Preston Smith who can potentially be very, very good. Sure - he may be used in a somewhat different matter, but I am pretty sure that he will be an impact player.
If SM does this well (most signs are good at this time) then you will always see vets that are shipped out as part of the rebuilding process. Good teams do it all of the time.
No hate skinsdad. I was one of the few on here who wanted him back, but the production has tailed off dramatically due to injury and a lack of progression in regards to his craft.
No hate here either. I just think he was a player who would've been better served as a natural 43 DE instead of a converted 34 OLB. And I never thought he was good as some claimed him to be. Someone posted that he had one pass rush move, a bull rush, I thought it was more a speed rush where he tried to slice right off a OT's shoulder, but I believe we're talking the same move. It left Rak in a sort of arm wrestling contest with the OT far too many times.
I remember one game where he got a sack doing a 360 spin move to the inside. Both Jon Blaze and I were seriously shocked. I never saw him do it before or after that one time.
