Dombrowski has a huge task ahead, but to be frank there are few people in the baseball world I'd rather have in charge than him. Nice hire.

THRILLED with this.

I wonder what happens to Farrell now (assuming he recovers). Benny was always more of a problem than Farrell was.

I expect David Price to be in Boston.

I'm interested to see if he pulls a prince fielder type deal with either Pablo and/or Hanley as well.

Lol. Farrell's one of the worst managers in baseball.

50/50 on it

if the goal is a blend of old school (dombrowski) and new school (still use carmine, etc) it will work.

i guess the jays wanted dombrowski so the sox threw the kitchen sink at him.

Guess the Jays are going to keep AA around. I mean, unless everything goes to shit in the next month. Which is absolutely possible.

his 1st move

Red Sox released RHP Justin Masterson.

Masterson's signing is one of the reasons former general manager Ben Cherington was pushed out the door and the righty's release is technically new president Dave Dombrowski's first move. He should be able to latch on elsewhere now that he can be had on the cheap.

He had already been designated for assignment by Cherington, but yeah a good start to turning the page.

I think that's insane. That guy doesn't seem qualified to serve gyros at the ballpark, much less run the team.

I think you guys will enjoy Dombrowski. He loves to wheel and deal, so don't get attached to many of your minor league prospects. He loves dealing prospects for young MLB talent with multiple years of team control -- In Detroit -- that is how we got Miguel Cabrera, Max Scherzer, Austin Jackson, Anibal Sanchez, Doug Fister, etc.

One thing I can guarantee Dombrowski won't be happy with -- Rick Porcello for 4 years at 20 million a year. Wouldn't be surprised to see if he can get someone to try and take him out of there.

I thought that wasn't an awful deal because he would've gotten double that if he repeated his 2014....but damn does he suck this year.

Dombrowski had his "success" in the AL Central when it was one of the -- if not the -- worst divisions in baseball. He significantly outspent his divisional rivals and would still only barely win a weak division. With the Tigers' budget, had they had a competent GM, they may have won a championship.

to be fair he won with the Marlins and built the core of that 03 team (drafted AGonz who was traded for Ugey, drafted beckett, traded for Burnett and Derek Lee, signed Miggy etc.)

Fair.

I just haven't been impressed with his performance in Detroit.

To be clear i'm not saying he's perfect.

I'm more concerned over the lack of home grown talent, even that he traded away.

He appears to be strong at evaluating his own talent though as he seems to win a lot of trades.
