Seeing people in here defending Sutter and Scuderi is weird...Sutter is perfectly serviceable, but mediocre. Scuderi has zero value. He makes the team worse when he's in the ice, and stats show Sutter did the same. He made his teammates worse. He's a center that had 12 assists this year and 13 assists last year.

Wait....hockeydb has him receiving a first place vote for the Selke this year?! WHO VOTED THAT?

When a guy is well liked by media members but doesn't score they will often simply make up another reason to praise him. He's a Sutter, and the narrative is that Sutters are gritty, two way players. So the characterization is a perfect (bullshit) fit.

It's part of the reason I had to read for a couple of years about how defensively responsible Tyler Bozak is, even though anyone that watches him a little bit can see he's not. Apparently he became a little less accomodating to the media this year, which probably explains why we're starting to hear different opinions on his defensive prowess from them.

Which is also why Roberto Russi (refuse to do him the kindness of using his name) lambasted this deal, and really the whole Pens offseason. He was on radio today saying he didn't see the Pens making the playoffs. I'm sorry, you're completely butthurt if that's what you're going with. He said "Maatta isn't Lidstrom". No shit Sherlock...who in the league right now is? Questioning the defense is acceptable, but it's painfully obvious what his angle is. He was forced off the Pens beat, Jimmy tore him a new one, and his response was saying they were doomed. Then Rutherfod makes moves that most laud, and he remains apocalyptic. Media, idiots.

Shame to see Sutter go but the deal for the Pens gave them more cap space and the replacement in Fehr. Also a net gain of another forward (Bonino) extra D-man (which is probably the Chorney replacement) and if he can't clear waivers probably the 6th or 7th with Scuderi (as i just threw up a little) taking the other spot.
The swap of the picks is good in the fact that they moved up by giving a 3rd round pick they didn't even earn. Thanks Disco Dan!

Think it was mentioned but I guarantee if he is outplayed by Doumolin in the pre-season the phantom lower body injury will appear. Then go on the IR, then a rehab at WBS then when Dumoulin or whoever beat him out shows they aren't ready (or waived...IE Lovejoy...) he will then come back up without having to clear waivers.

IF healthy (HUGE IF..) their top 4 d-men are Letang, Maatta, Pouliot and Cole. Then the bottom six from the group of Lovejoy, Scuderi, Dumoulin, Clendenning and Andersson. Basically a throw s**t at the wall and whatever sticks great.

As I forgot about Erixon...

I thought this tweet about the Sutter deal was pretty funny. Probably pretty accurate too.

After reading Canucks fans' opinions on this trade I'm starting to think that all I have to do is change my name to Sutter and they'll be talking up my grit and defense in the CAN/AM Challenge Cup final and screaming for Benning to add me. It's funny what the right name can do for you.
God help them if another Ronning ever enters the league.

I know it's just opinion, but I find it really funny hearing other fans telling Pens fans that trading Sutter was a mistake, or that we should hold onto Scuderi. At least the former is a decent player, but he doesn't fit at all with our identity or cap situation. But the latter is just plain bad.

Essentially my reaction too...I mean, Scuderi is bad. Like 'making young players worse' bad.

Vancouver Canucks @VanCanucks
#Canucks sign Brandon Sutter to 5-year contract extension; average annual value of $4.375M.

That's quite the foundational piece.

I don't think the dollar figure is too bad (it's on the right side of 4.5 shmill), but the term of 5 years is a little iffy.

that 5 years is for the pure mindset of the canucks fan base so they can always wonder if we got enough for KEsler. Im not unhappy with this deal.

Since we were talking in the other thread about the 60 point threshold, anyone want to guess how old Brandon was the last time he surpassed it in any league?
