Sandy Alderson is building the Mets the same way Glen Sather has built the Rangers: By building and maintaining a strong minor league system on every level through top scouting and excellent player development with some solid but not overpriced player acquisitions along the way. That's how Alderson built the 1989 champion Oakland A's and how Sather built the 5-time Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers.
If the Mets had spent the kind of money fans were screaming for they'd have wound up, in a few years, like the Yankees are now; an old, worn-out, tired $200 million team with very little on the farm. Kudos to Alderson for making the future of the New York Mets bright once again.
