Picture me frolicking through the daisies, that's how I feel about this move. Especially with the Fehr signing too. Just upgraded the talent and decreased the cost. Went from Sutter/Lappierre to Fehr/Bonino and saved $500k. Yes, Jimmy.

one of the only young-ish prospects on d with some semblance of offensive productivity

/comedy gold dash!

Well, Frankie Corrado will be getting plenty of ice time with the big club this season. You know Francesco likes those Italian boys.

That about sums it up.

Look, Sutter isn't bad at all, but he is what he is. Middling offensive production and there's not one stat that supports him being a shut down guy on D side. He will score a few shorties, he will log some PK minutes, but he's paid 3.3M for that. That was the issue.

Or flip Fehr and Bonino. And with Sundqvist in until Fehr is ready in November. Four lines capable of scoring...now we get it.

Perhaps not. Sutter wouldn't be the first :D

I liked Sutter. He was a very capable 3rd line center during his time in Pittsburgh. And he actually was one of their better performers during the past two short playoff seasons for the Pens. He's an excellent penalty killer, and will probably pot a couple of short-handed goals.

Yeah, I think Sutter will give the Canucks a little more jam up front than Bonino and they both can provide some pretty good offense, I just don't like the fact that the Canucks tossed in Clendening in the trade. Also, the fact that Sutter is a pending UFA after next season is not good if he signs with another club.

I'd think you'd love all these facts, Dash. WHO ARE YOU?

I may be in the minority but I don't think this trade was good for the Penguins like everyone thinks it is

Brandon Sutter was one of the very few Penguins who showed up in the playoffs and he was great on the PK and that's something I don't think Bonino can necessarily replace - Bonino was hyped up because of how he played in Anaheim but I don't think he's anything special - and why is Clendening being hyped up too? If he couldn't crack Chicago's top six when he was there then I doubt he can make that much of an impact elsewhere

Pittsburgh has some good young defensive prospects but they better figure out that situation there because if injuries happen on the blueline again which I wouldn't bet against, then they are screwed - I still don't think the dynamic of their forward group is good enough against the best teams in the league - Kessel is very talented but I still think the dynamic there reeks and a screw is still loose there - I think Brandon Sutter is the perfect playoff performer on the right team and I don't think Vancouver is that team either but if people are excusing the Penguins for making that trade based on how they gained cap space, then that's sad because I don't think that's as good of a hockey deal as people think it was

I think that when you factor in the add of Eric Fehr, GMJR has done a fairly strong job this off-season of retooling both the bottom two lines, and addressing the need for more scoring from the wings. Brandon Sutter was on an expiring contract, this season. There was little to no chance he was going to be re-signed. They replace him with a slight downgrade in Bonino, yet less expensive and dependable. And the add of Fehr is the real jewel in all of these moves, today. Getting a 2nd Rd. pick in return, plus a offensive defensman in Clendening, too!

I'll take it:thumb:

I'm sorry jstew. I've seen enough bad GM moves to recognize one clearly now.

I said this already in the other thread, but the Canucks look like they're going to be really bad this year whenever the Sedins aren't on the ice. Really bad.

Again, production based on money paid says Sutter wasn't great. And as far as playoffs? He has 12 career playoff points in 33 games. Nick Bonino has 15 in 30.
