And yet you are arguing that a large number of teams will make exactly that choice. Odd. I find myself agreeing with your premises, but arriving at exactly the opposite conclusion.

I guess I'm too dense, I just dont see what you're saying about an opposite conclusion. What I'm saying is, programs will go with whatever makes them the most money. They did it before by leaving the Big12, sacrificing long-time rivalries.

So, why wont they do it in the future, and move to the power65, bargaining as one for an NFL-like tv contract that makes them much more money? I think they would do it in a heartbeat, and sacrifice their current conference set-up,(to a certain extent, geography will keep most together) for a fully autonomous league.

Whatever, it's all conjecture and some years away if it ever happens. I believe it all started up again with Boren's comments, along with the Big12's problem/no problem of only having 10 members and no CCG.

Like I said, I can be dense and not see the forest for the trees sometimes...I'll go back and read what was said. Maybe it'll get through...:noidea:

For simplicity, consider just three teams, Knowledge Tech, Learning University, and Smarty College. And (again for simplicity) assume that there is $60M available in television contracts.

Under one scenario, the three schools collectively bargain and split the pot, $20M each. But if Knowledge Tech is willing to screw the other two over, KT can bring home $30M and leave the other two with only $15M each. Since Knowledge is going to do what is in its best interests, it will screw the others over and grab the extra ten million dollars.

Now - suppose that they do decide to work together and squeeze out an extra $15M from the networks, so they can split it and get $25M each. It is still in the best interests of KT to screw the others and take the extra money.

And that's what makes the world go around.

okay, yeah I see it now.

But if there is a commissioner (and there would HAVE to be a commissioner, just like in the NFL), every program would make more money than they are now. They would have to work together, protect the shield if you will, for the thing to work, and a commissioner would be needed to keep them in line.

Today, the NCAA has been the ruling body, but they dont really control the big programs. The big boys basically are in control. So the P65 would not be governed by the NCAA anymore, that would go away for them.

Some programs, would be able to make more than others on stuff like jersey/product sales, kind of like the Dallas Cowboys do, etc., but the tv contract could be much larger than what is/will be available to individual conferences.

Yes. A school that is making $30 mil compared to just $20 mil for it's fellow conference members would be dumb not to jump on an increase to $40 mil even though it's fellow members will be getting the increase to $40 mil as well.

If a school were dumb enough to turn down the extra $10 mil because they wanted more than the other members, they could always not join and stay behind with the mid-majors.

So if Oklahoma got an invite from the BIG the PAC and the SEC all at the same time tomorrow.
Where would it make the most sense from a dollar standpoint, to go?

B1G we have Nebraska... If you're going to lose the Texas rivalry you may as well regain the Nebraska one :thumb:

Impossible to say because if a Texas comes also it could swing the dollars considerably to what ever conference they chose. If they went by themselves and say OSU or other non-game changing school probably the SEC or B1G because I think their network deals are going to be explosive. The PAC needs OU and a Texas bad and would be a huge game changer for their network due to new time zones.

Better yet, kick Texas out and get Nebraska back... :D (Never was a fan of being in the same conference as the Horns, it just doesn't feel right)

Okay okay. We'll kick Purdue out and give you a +2. You can bring two of your Big XII brethren with you.

From a fan perspective your worst option would be the PAC. OU-USC would be fun to watch but if it's the late game on the west coast most of your fans (not to mention the east coast media) are going to be asleep.

SEC all the way.

not the PAC. That has been established that their network is underperforming plus the PAC 12 has a lot of TShirt Fans. No passion there.

Dollar Standpoint right now the SEC is going to be the big dog. Maybe, if the B1G scores a big contract, but that is a maybe. ESPN WILL sweeten the SEC pot to keep OU away from Fox and NBC Sports, probably even make the SEC the guaranteed highest paid conference.

The B1G is an interesting one but you would be the outlying state. The geography is different for Oklahoma and the B1G. A lot of winter, why deal with snow and cold?

Since Oklahoma touches Missouri and Arkansas, and Texas will beg to keep the OU Texas game(OU can ask for 20 million from Texas per year to keep the game, Texas might pay that). The SEC is nuts about football, Oklahoma won't have to play too many brutally cold games, the SEC is the correct choice in my opinion. If Oklahoma ever has too worry, Oklahoma will be courted almost as badly as Texas is and with Oklahoma the Sooner Sports Network is not a problem, other than Fox will have to be paid off, which is nowhere near the $250,000,000 that Texas will want to get out of their ESPN contract. Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina will be long hauls, but Norman to Tuscaloosa is a one day, long drive.

Can't believe ole Frank the Tank is stirring this shit up again...

But anyway, who was it that assured me that the ACC was in a MUCH more precarious situation than the Big XII ?

The cold thing is exaggerated. The real cold doesn't set in until December, after the regular season is over and even then the Big 10 Championship is played indoors. So is the SEC Championship for that matter.

The average November temperatures across Big 10 country is approximately 50° F

Minneapolis, MN would be an outlier at 41° F. Even that's not real cold.

There MIGHT be 1 game max played in real cold.

Oklahoma does/did that now or when they played in the Big 8
