IDK on this one. The Lakers appeared to have done this deal out of panic, but that makes little sense because they didn't need to sign a FA this year. If we did fine, but this has Jim Buss written all over it. Like I said, IDK. If B. Scott can get the man's mind right maybe it will turn around.

Maybe. I expect they'll have Kareem work with him some too. But frankly, I expect more out of Upshaw than Hibbert.

Yeah, as an expiring contract, maybe he's worth a shot. If they get something close to the Hibbert we saw against the Heat a couple of seasons ago, it might be okay. But I'm not holding my breath.

Worst case though, he continues to be soft as Charmin and the Lakers let him walk at the end of the season.

To be honest, I thought the move was made to let him go next year and keep cap space. NOW, if it does start to look like he's worth something then by all means, if we can get him for a good bargain, then it'll be nice to have a rim protector going forward. All depends on the situation and who's available

Yeah, I'm looking at it like signing Lin. He was an expiring contract with an opportunity to earn a spot going forward. If he did, great. If not, it's no big deal letting him walk.

Call his bluff. Lebron ain't leaving Cleveland or he's forever labeled an ass by everyone. They paid big for Love so Lebron can't play the "well Gilbert was too cheap" card. He has zero leverage now. Tell Thompson he gets 12 mil (perfectly fair) or he can take the QO.

With the addition of Koufos, the Kings probable bench has Collison, Marco, Koufos, Moreland, Anderson, and hopefully Casspi. I'd say that's a solid bench and while it might not be the best in the NBA, after last season when guys like Stauskas, Sessions, McCallum, Reggie Evans, Derrick Williams, and Ryan Hollins were key players off the bench it's a definite upgrade.

IDK why everyone is interpreting that news from Windhorst as "LeBron is holding out so TT gets a good deal"... when what Windhorst actually reported was that LeBron has told the Cavs he's not going anywhere, so go ahead and take care of everyone else since there's no hurry to ink LeBron since there is no threat of him leaving.

Everything Windy reports should be taken with a grain of salt anyway

You've got to be kidding.
Lebron always will have all the power with Gilbert because he'll have opt outs every year.

I do agree he's not going anywhere for the upcoming season, it's to late to handpick a team, but I think he'd be gone next season if Gilbert backtracks on any promises made.
Maybe he sits out a season to rest his body?
It would be the greatest payback of all time ( for Gilbert's letter about him).

The fact that Tristan originally turned down the 52/4 extension was the indicator this was coming.

For Tristan to now balk at the 16M is so beyond ridiculous in any fair market value negotiating, and especially as pointed out yesterday, the Cavs are being forced to overbid against themselves.

So, I'm no expert at this, but if the Cavs are more then 20M over, which they will be, the penalty is multiplied by 3.75 for each dollar?


So, Gilbert could potentially be paying net cost of around 60M / year for Tristan vs letting him walk?

We do know he turned down the 52 at the beginning of the year... which was clearly a bold move. We don't know what he has been offered and what's being negotiate currently as the early reports turned out to be completely wrong.

Let's just wait and see.
