Something tells me Nick will keep pitching at RR. So not sure about the limit the innings thing. We shall see.
They can skip a start or limit the innings each time out in Round Rock a lot easier than they can up here.

I think this is a way to limit Nick's innings while they see what they have in Harrison.
Well, if it's against Arizona or San Diego, fine. Might as well. They owe him one start, I guess. Hope he learns to be crafty like Colby.

Would you all have been opposed to swapping Hamilton and Moreland around? Seems it would be nice to have Moreland in more of a position to drive in runs than being a table setter.

Guess dropping Choo, means they hope he gets some better pitches there, but he seems to be sort of improving now and he seems better at the top of the order at 1 or 2. Guess they could be hoping MM at 2 means that he gets some pitches with Fielder at 3.

This may be Neftali's opportunity to show he has anything at all, before they DFA him

@JeffWilson_FWST: Nick Martinez was optioned as a way to get him extra rest and clear a rotation spot for Matt Harrison, who will start Tuesday. #Rangers

Still doesn't explain why we would call Feliz up though. I love Matt for the same reasons I love Colby so I hope he is able to do something special. It would be great to see.

I think Feliz spells Kela some, he's being used way too much at the current rate for his career innings avg. IDK but I think maybe they consider moving Feliz or releasing him, possibly if he cant prove effective

The Rangers have acquired the Angels slot money so they have more to spend now.

Heard Banister on the radio this morning and he's a proponent of a 6 man rotation. He feels, "it will extend pitchers, not expose them to injury as much, and improve the quality of the game itself." So I expect to see a 6 man staff, at least initially, for the second half of the season.

But if we go with a 6 man rotation, doesn't this put us a man down in the BP through default?

I know Kela needs a break but there are guys who have been pitching better than Feliz by a long shot. I know they are not guys that make us feel warm and fuzzy at the MLB level but I do not want to lose games because Feliz comes in to see what we have or do not have. If he cannot prove himself at AAA then forget about it. And I am just not a fan of his to begin with in case no one could tell. He has this I am calm look on his face that is so forced that you know he is not.

Not if the people on the bench are versatile; Alberto/Rosales covers the SS/IF, a catcher (Corpy), and Martin (CF/OF), with our 1B/DH both being Moreland and Fielder, we're covered there too

Rosales could be the victim here if anything with Alberto being the superior SS

Plus Rua can cover a number of areas including some IF spots. I think Rosales time here is about done.

I hear ya, I don't think Feliz is on the club in August but who knows

Yeah but with Hamilton and Choo taking the corners, Rua needs to be in AAA once DDJ is back, first injury reinforcement in the OF

But if we go with a 6 man rotation, doesn't this put us a man down in the BP through default?

that might be "addition by subtraction," in some cases. Although Freeman has been less of a huge piece of shit lately, Scheppers is flashing some signs of old, etc. Still don't trust any of them fully but they've improved a little recently overall. And I suppose whatever improvement the 6-man rotation is supposed to bring to the starters' health will offset the lack of an arm in the BP.

As for Feliz being brought up, I have to think (or hope) that it's to give Kela a break. The kid should not be near the top of the league in appearances.

I wonder if sending Nick down was intended to have (or will have, regardless) the same effect that sending Odor down did. Odor played above his head for a while and then regressed. Needed a bit more seasoning. Nick certainly pitched his way into the rotation, but he's been shaky of late (even though last night was a solid performance) and sometimes you need to kick the shit out of some AAA opposition to find your way back.

I do think it's a bit strange they sent him down instead of Chi Chi, but that's probably more to do with player options and whatnot.

Big Mitch in the 2 spot is odd. Yes I'd prefer Hamilton there over Mitch right now.
