Most of these reports are coming out of Minnesota & not Arizona. I wouldn't put any stock into those reports till you see Cardinals beat reporters hinting that a trade is imminent or talks are ongoing. This is nothing more that Minnesota trying to increase the market for AP if they decide to trade him.
Maybe, but I do think the Vikings would like to keep him. Seems to me the best to drive his price is to say they will consider trading him. I was just yanking Guns & Guitar chain, but what I said was true. The window is closing for Romo and the Cowboys, and I'm sure some team like the Jags or Raiders would love to make a offer for AP. If the Vikings want to drive the price up, have a auction.

As much as I love AD if he's gotta go I wouldn't mind seeing him in Arizona. Someone said something about AZ being where running backs go to die or something and mentioned Emmitt. Emmitt was done when he went to the Cards, AD is nowhere near done...

I think the Vikings brass disagrees with you, I think they want AP there to help their QB. If they decide it not possible, holding a auction for the highest bidder makes sense. If AP doesn't like it, to bad, the Vikings got to do what's best for the Vikings.

Romo had one of his best seasons last year so that window is still wide open. There are a glut of good RB's available in the draft which may be a better option than acquiring AP.

If the Cowboys are lucky, whoever replaces Murray will get about 75% of the yardage DeMarco would have put up.

  • There’s some noise out there that Adrian Peterson could be traded to Arizona. Well, I guess he could, at some point. But the money would be a major problem. I spoke with a reliable Cardinals source Sunday night, and the three years and $45 million left on Peterson’s contract is an absolute non-starter with the Cards. “We haven’t had contact with the Vikings about it, to the best of my knowledge,” the source said. “And there is no way we could live with those numbers. We just got Larry Fitzgerald’s contract under control. No way we’d add that salary.” Two other detrimental factors: Arizona loves the running-back crop in this draft, and the Cardinals, with the 23rd and 55th overall picks, would be able to get a very good one. And Peterson turns 30 on Saturday. Not an optimum age for a back, even one who got so little wear on his tires in 2014.

Reports that the Cards were willing to surrender a "high draft pick" were likely the result of Peterson's agent trying to drive up demand. The Vikes continue to claim they want Peterson back, but he's made it clear he wants out. Peterson's release is the most likely endgame

interesting. I was a fan of Ellington, I think his injury last year was obviously over looked cause of the QB issue, but AP Could make them really scary.

I say could, cause AP is up there in age, and was watching Redzone on sundays last year. Who knows how he comes out and plays this year.... Especially with the new HGH testing.....

Report: Cards see Adrian Peterson's contract as issue - NFL.com

Basically parroting King, but word out there is Arizona really isn't in the running to do a trade for him. AP may want out of Minn, but he doesn't have a lot of control over what they ultimately do with his contract.

Does he end up playing in Minn? Will he get cut and end up in Dallas? Will someone be stupid enough to trade away something big for him? Jury is out, but zona is at best a real long shot to get him.

Thank goodness.

I think Minnesota is in a tough spot. They can't easily cut him without facing some severe backlash from fans. And no one is going to take on his contract. It's way too much money so unless they can get AP to renegotiate his deal, I don't see him leaving the Twin Cities this year.

AP's contract will prohibit a team trading for him.
Minny can cut him and eat $2.4M in guaranteed $ which isn't that much considering the salary AP commands.
Yet I wonder why Minny cuts him since they just got Mike Wallace, who was certainly an expense.

Whenever this thread pops to the top of the list, I get a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach and open it up a little scared as I am worried that the new post is going to be about Peterson just being dealt.

I really want to see AP back with my Vikes. IMO this team is a playoff team as long as last year's defensive improvement that we saw wasn't a mirage (which of course it could be).

I personally don't worry about AP's contract. Even with him and Wallace, the Vikes could spend a ton more money this offseason if they really wanted to (I really don't blame Zygi for being a little cheap....I bet it's hard to find cash to give to free agents playing in a college stadium). And Peterson is a top player in the league worthy of the contract he is under IMO.

IMO there are 2 levels of good positional players in this league:
1) Scheme changing positional players. Players that force offenses and defenses to account for them on every single play. They make everyone on the team better just by being on the field. Guys who change schemes are Calvin Johnson's, Richard Sherman's, ect.
2) Good players. They might even be the best at their position. They can play their position as well as it possible can be played....but they still aren't scheme changers.

Peterson is a scheme changer IMO. That is why I don't worry about his cap number. Without Peterson on the field, Mike Wallace, John Sullivan, and everyone else on the team is a lot less likely to look worthy of their contracts by the end of the season.

That said...I do obviously worry about how Peterson is going to age. But I want the VIkes to take that chance and see if a motivated and angry Peterson doesn't look a lot like the one we saw the year after his ACL injury where he single handedly lead the Vikes to the playoffs despite having very, very little talent around him.

Can you come up with one example of a QB option better than Palmer / Stanton that they might be able to acquire? Just one?
Does the name Tim Tebow ring a bell?

They won't get much for AP in a trade but the Jets have a history of making stupid decisions.

I'm starting to think we're going to draft Gordon @ 24 and use the money saved off the restructured contracts elsewhere. With an improved O-Line & Gordon-Ellington as a 1-2 punch we could have a solid run game.

It will depend which pass rushers are left. Keim & company have been looking at 2nd/3rd round prospects like Tevin Coleman & David Johnson along with Melvin Gordon. If one of the better pass rushers on their board drops to them, I expect them to pass on a RB in the 1st round & grab one of the other guys in the 2nd. If the pass rushers they like are gone, I can see them drafting Gordon.
